Job summary

City of Charleston is seeking a Recreation Specialist to develop and promote programs for Youth Sports within the Athletics, Culture & Recreation department. The role focuses on adapting activities to community needs and coordinating with staff to ensure well-balanced services.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED and at least two years of related experience, plus a valid driver’s license. CPR/First Aid certification must be obtained within 30 days.

Qualifications

  • Two years of related experience and/or training.
  • High School Diploma or GED; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid state issued driver’s license.
  • Ability to obtain CPR certification and First Aid certification within 30 days of employment.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Outlook, Excel, and Word or similar software.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and promotes recreation programs, including social recreation and games.
  • Adapts recreation programs to meet needs of the department and the community.
  • Introduces new program activities, equipment, and materials to staff.
  • Interprets recreation service to public and participates in community meetings and organizational planning.
  • Works in team with other recreation personnel to ensure that recreation is well balanced, coordinated, and integrated.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
