Job summary

The City of Dallas is looking for a Recreation Program Specialist to plan, develop, and run educational and recreational programs for citizens. You will coordinate logistics for youth services, senior assistance, and special events, while guiding program staff and ensuring safe, engaging activities across recreation facilities.

Responsibilities include record-keeping, customer service, and marketing outreach.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of recreation facilities and general programming.
• Ability to work with children, youth, and adults.
• Knowledge of sports and general rules.
• Knowledge of first aid principles and practices.
• Ability to develop, create, and implement activities and work with a multi-cultural community.
• Ability to enforce recreation, program, and sporting regulations.
• Establishing and maintaining effective relationships.
• Knowledge of strong customer service principles and practices.
• Communicating effectively orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Creates, develops, implements, and provides oversight for programs and activities at centers; ensures programs for adults, teens, children, and the community are effective.
• Leads recreational activities, demonstrates sports procedures, and instructs participants; provides direction for other staff.
• Offers specialized program assistance for school programs and maintains program logistics for smooth operations.
• Oversees attendance records, reports, and revenue tracking; maintains participant and material records.
• Provides information to participants and the public about programs; delivers excellent customer service.
• Performs administrative tasks: registrations, schedules, phones, and supplies management.
• Transports youth to field trips and special events; conducts recreational and educational activities.
• Instructs participants and enforces rules; maintains orderly program progression.
• Provides outreach, creates marketing materials, attends events to promote programs.
• Performs other tasks as needed.
