Job summary

City of Huntington Park is seeking an entry-level, part-time recreation assistant to help organize and supervise public activities at park facilities. You will answer questions, provide service to the public, and assist in programs during mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays.

The role supports the Recreation Coordinator and Leaders and requires flexibility, basic computer skills, and the ability to lift equipment. Spanish language ability is a plus.

Qualifications

• Education/Training: Any combination of education and/or experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for satisfactory job performance.
• Experience: Six (6) months experience, paid or volunteer, in the recreational field or in a customer service position is desirable.
• License: A valid California Class C Driver's License and a satisfactory driving record, may be required depending upon assignment.
• Desirable Qualifications: Ability to Speak Spanish.

Responsibilities

• Assist in conducting after school, vacation and special holiday programs of recreation for children, youth and adults.
• Assist in supervising free play and team activities of adults and children in outdoor and indoor play areas.
• Assist employees assigned to the area during vacation and holiday periods.
• Assist in supervising preschool recreation programs.
• Supervise overall activities of playground or other sites.
• Monitor parks and recreation facilities to ensure rules and regulations are followed and customers' questions are answered.
