Job summary

Mujeres Latinas en Acción, based in North Riverside, IL, seeks a part-time Community Promoter to provide outreach and support to help Latinx residents access health and social services.

You will partner with libraries, parks, and faith-based groups; travel within the community, including evenings and weekends; and use MS Office to share resources and track referrals.

  • Refer clients to social services and coordinate with partners.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all client interactions.

Job description

  • The Community Promoter provides outreach and support to help members of the community understand and access the services of MLEA and other local resources. Through community education, advocacy, and hands-on outreach, they help increase health knowledge and connect Latinx community members with the care and support they need. This is a part-time, flexible-hours role based in North Riverside, IL.
  • Reports to: Senior Manager of Grassroots Leadership
Key Responsibilities:
Community Outreach & Engagement
  • Community Partnerships: Partner with community sites and groups (libraries, park districts, townships, villages, churches, community groups, etc.) in communities with large and/or growing Latinx populations to host resource tables, provide referrals, and distribute resource materials.
  • Health Outreach: Conduct outreach and education to individuals who are in need of health care and social services to increase utilization of the health care system.
  • Community Presence: Attend and present at local group meetings, fairs, and community events to share information and identify individuals in need of further support or services.
  • Program Partnership: Collaborate with community partners to offer health, wellness, and informational programs.
  • Referral Facilitation: Facilitate referrals to social service and community support resources.
  • Confidentiality: Maintain the highest level of confidentiality in all community and client interactions.
Professional Development & Team Support
  • Training: Actively participate in training sessions and meetings, and support other team members by sharing information and resources.
  • Additional Duties: Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills:
  • Experience: Basic knowledge of healthcare systems and health education; prior community outreach experience preferred.
  • Location: Must reside in one of the following suburbs: Bridgeview, Broadview, Brookfield, Countryside, Hickory Hills, Hodgkins, La Grange, Justice, Lyons, McCook, North Riverside, Riverside, Stickney, Summit, Westchester, Cicero, or Berwyn.
  • Availability: Ability to maintain flexible hours, including occasional evenings and weekends as needed for community events, and to attend advocacy days in Springfield, IL.
  • Technical Proficiency: Basic computer and internet skills; MS Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) a plus.
  • Communication: Comfortable speaking with groups of all sizes, with good presentation skills and a strong sense of client service.
  • Mobility & Organization: Access to a vehicle, and excellent organizational skills with the ability to multitask, take initiative, adapt, and work independently with a strong commitment to timely execution of tasks.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
  • This is a field-based, part-time role requiring travel throughout the community for outreach and events.
  • May be required to stand for prolonged periods and walk to and from various locations.
  • Must be able to prepare, pack, and carry materials needed to set up resource tables.
  • Access to a vehicle required for travel to community sites and advocacy days in Springfield, IL.
  • Work evenings and weekends as needed for community events.
