Job summary

Bastion Community of Resilience is hiring a Community Programs Manager in New Orleans, LA to oversee daily operations and programming of the Veteran Wellness Center, outside Bastion’s long-term programs. You will build partner relationships, plan events, manage outreach and intake, and track services and resources.

The role requires experience in social services, strong interpersonal skills, and a commitment to veteran wellbeing.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Social Work, Human Services, Public Health, or related field.

Responsibilities

• Lead planning, overseeing, and tracking all events and activities in the Veteran Wellness Center outside Bastion’s formal programs.
• Develop and formalize partnerships with third party organizations delivering services in the Center.
• Coordinate with the Executive Director on Bastion’s role as fiscal sponsor and convener of the New Orleans Veterans Coalition.
• Coordinate and oversee execution of special events including Partner Convenings and Wellness Fest.
• Develop new programs and offerings in the Center aligning with Bastion’s care model.
• Manage and supervise all Bastion volunteer activities around the Center.
• Oversee the organization’s budget for veteran-facing events outside long-term programs.
• Track and report Veteran Wellness Center participation data (Salesforce).
• Assist staff in greeting and assisting veterans seeking support.
• Supervise the Intake Coordinator and Outreach Coordinator.

JOB SUMMARY: The Community Programs Manager oversees the daily operations and programming of the Bastion nonprofit’s Veteran Wellness Center with respect to those resources, activities, and events that fall outside of Bastion’s two long-term programs - Headway and the Wellness Intensive. The Community Programs Manager develops and manages relationships with on-site partners, plans individual events, manages our outreach and intake efforts, and is responsible for tracking and reporting on the overall services and resources provided by the Veteran Wellness Center.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities:

• Lead responsibility for planning, overseeing, and tracking all events and activities in the Veteran Wellness Center outside of Bastion’s formal, long-term programs.
• Develops and formalizes partnerships with those third party organizations who will deliver services, resources, or programs in the Veteran Wellness Center on an ongoing basis, to include the execution of Memoranda of Understanding and the tracking of partnership performance (e.g. successful referrals).
• Works with the Executive Director to develop and manage Bastion’s role as the fiscal sponsor and convener of the New Orleans Veterans Coalition, including its formalization as a VA-certified Community Veterans Engagement Board (CVEB).
• Coordinates and oversees the execution of special events in the Veteran Wellness Center, including third party events, Partner Convenings, and our annual Wellness Fest.
• Works with the Executive Director, Clinical Director, and clinical team to develop new programs and offerings in the Veteran Wellness Center that conform with and support Bastion’s Model of Care.
• Manages and supervises all Bastion volunteer activities in and around the Veteran Wellness Center.
• Manages the organization’s budget with respect to veteran-facing events and activities outside of our long-term, formal programs.
• Lead responsibility for the tracking and reporting of Veteran Wellness Center participation data in Salesforce, including event participation, total facility throughput, and partner/third party referrals.
• Assists other on-site staff as needed with greeting, engaging, and assisting veterans who arrive at the Veteran Wellness Center seeking support.
• Supervises the Intake Coordinator and Outreach Coordinator in the execution of their duties.

Education, Experience & Qualifications:

• A bachelor’s degree or higher in Social Work, Human Services, Public Health, or a related field is strongly preferred.
• Extensive familiarity and/or experience with the military and/or veteran populations is strongly preferred.
• Experience in social work, supportive services, community organizing, and/or case management is preferred.
• Knowledge of veteran-serving programs and resources (e.g. VA, state programs, nonprofit resources) is preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and organizational skills are required.
• An empathetic, culturally sensitive, and nonjudgmental approach to client service and care is required.
• A strong inclination for creative problem solving, teamwork, and client-facing interaction is required.

Work Environment and Demands:

• Work is performed in a collaborative, team-oriented environment focused on service excellence and requires professional boundaries and high ethical standards.
• Ability to communicate clearly in person, over the phone and in writing.
• Role requires prolonged standing and walking, and occasional bending and lifting of loads up to 25 pounds.
• Work is performed in a collaborative, fast-paced environment that values innovation, initiative, and flexibility.
• Role requires comfort with proximity to individuals navigating emotional instability or behavioral challenges, as well as the possibility of supporting (along with the clinical team) an individual in crisis to obtain appropriate higher-level care.
