Job summary

The Murphy Police Department seeks to add a Certified Police Officer to its dynamic team. As our Police Officer, you will provide crime prevention and law enforcement services for the City through proactive patrol, preliminary investigations, and traffic control duties in a designated area or assignment during duty hours.

Schedule commitments require on-call duty and call-out status; must work flexible hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must be 20 years and 180 days of age at the time of application.
• Licensed, or licensable without delay, by date of appointment as a peace officer in the state of Texas through TCOLE.
• Valid Texas Class C Driver's License without restrictions (except 'A') required by date of appointment - driving record must be in compliance with City policy.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Must pass a drug screen.

Responsibilities

• Patrols a specific beat to promote public safety and enhance the quality of life in assigned area.
• Promotes a positive image in performing community-policing duties.
• Conducts crime analysis and coordination with other shifts and divisions, such as CID.
• Regularly reviews crime trends and develops tactics and programs to respond to hot spots.
• Responds to calls for police service and takes necessary action.
• Completes crash, patrol, offense and arrest reports.
• Directs traffic, enforces traffic laws and investigates crashes.
• Stores, tags, and logs evidence and recovered property.
