EMBRACE at University of Maryland, Baltimore has an exciting opportunity for a dedicated, caring, and team-oriented Community Outreach Worker II. The selected candidate will apply specialized and theoretical knowledge, principles, and concepts to conduct outreach in the community to inform stakeholders of case management services. The candidate will enroll clients into case management and provide related services. This contractual position reports to the Community Program Director.

The mission of The Embrace Initiative is to collaborate with the community to create a safe, just, and equitable world. We do this through partnerships with grassroots organizations, non-profits, city agencies, and higher education institutions by accessing resources, removing barriers, making connections, and transforming systems.

Primary Duties
  1. Visit individuals and families in their homes, shelters, or similar settings to provide community outreach services, potentially serving as a lead worker.
  2. Provide crisis intervention, basic health education, and assist clients in accessing social services, including referrals.
  3. Conduct initial assessments to determine client needs.
  4. Speak at neighborhood meetings, establish communication and rapport, promote services, and distribute informational literature.
  5. Participate in evaluating educational materials and methods for community needs.
  6. Provide guidance and training to other outreach workers.
  7. Perform all duties of a Community Outreach Worker I.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Two years of experience in community outreach, healthcare, research, or social services.
  • Additional relevant experience and education may substitute for formal requirements on a year-for-year basis, with 30 college credits equivalent to one year of experience.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of community and social service resources.
  • Skills in conducting interviews and assessing needs.
  • Effective communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships.
  • Proficiency with computers and office equipment.
  • Ability to write reports, maintain records, work in extreme weather, perform extensive standing and walking, and handle sensitive matters with discretion.
  • Ability to interact effectively with the public, healthcare providers, community organizations, and social service agencies.
  • Maintain poise and courtesy under pressure.

Conditions of Employment:

  • May require use of personal vehicle and possession of a valid Maryland driver’s license.
  • May be subject to medical inquiries/examinations and background checks.
  • Not eligible for union participation.

Salary Range: $43,839.25 - $48,000, based on education and experience.
