Responsibilities

  • Develop, coordinate, and provide educational presentations regarding sexual assault, consent, healthy relationships, bystander awareness, risk reduction, survivor support, available resources, and other approved topics.
  • Provide presentations and educational programs to schools, colleges, healthcare organizations, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, faith-based organizations, and community organizations.
  • Educate community members about SARC's 24-hour services, medical forensic examinations, advocacy, counseling, referrals, and other available resources.
  • Develop relationships with organizations that can assist SARC in reaching underserved populations and rural communities.
  • Respond to requests for speakers, educational presentations, informational materials, and community participation.
  • Maintain a calendar of outreach activities, presentations, community events, and educational programs.
  • Identify opportunities to increase awareness of SARC and improve community knowledge regarding sexual violence, survivor resources, and available services.
  • Coordinate volunteer applications, screening, orientation, training, and placement in collaboration with appropriate SARC staff.
  • Maintain volunteer records, contact information, training documentation, and service hours.
  • Develop volunteer opportunities related to community outreach, awareness events, administrative support, special projects, and other appropriate organizational activities.
  • Communicate regularly with volunteers regarding upcoming opportunities and organizational needs.
  • Coordinate volunteer participation at community events, educational activities, and awareness initiatives.
  • Assist with recognizing volunteer contributions and developing strategies to maintain an engaged volunteer base.
  • Ensure volunteers understand confidentiality requirements, professional boundaries, trauma-informed practices, and SARC policies before participating in organizational activities.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with schools, colleges, healthcare providers, law enforcement agencies, social service organizations, faith-based organizations, community groups, and other organizations that can assist with education, awareness, referrals, and survivor access to services.
  • Participate in community coalitions, task forces, resource fairs, collaborative meetings, and other community initiatives as assigned.
  • Maintain updated community contacts and outreach records.
  • Identify underserved populations and geographic areas where additional community education and outreach may be beneficial.
  • Work with SARC program staff to ensure community education accurately reflects current services, eligibility requirements, referral processes, and available resources.
  • Facilitate connections between community organizations and appropriate SARC programs when additional information, training, or services are requested.
  • Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, presentations, events, participants, volunteers, community contacts, and materials distributed.
  • Collect demographic and program information required by applicable grants while protecting participant and survivor confidentiality.
  • Provide monthly, quarterly, and annual outreach statistics as requested.
  • Assist with grant reporting by providing accurate information regarding community education, outreach activities, volunteer participation, and program outcomes.
  • Document activities in SARC's designated data-management and tracking systems.

Position Summary

The Community Outreach Coordinator is responsible for increasing community awareness of sexual assault, available survivor services, healthy relationships, consent, risk reduction, and resources available through the Sexual Assault Response Center.

This position coordinates community education, awareness activities, presentations, outreach events, informational tables, volunteer engagement, and distribution of community resources.

The Community Outreach Coordinator works collaboratively with schools, colleges, healthcare organizations, law enforcement agencies, civic organizations, businesses, faith-based organizations, and other community groups to increase awareness of sexual violence, educate the community, and ensure individuals understand how to access SARC services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Community Outreach and Education
  • Develop, coordinate, and provide educational presentations regarding sexual assault, consent, healthy relationships, bystander awareness, risk reduction, survivor support, available resources, and other approved topics.
  • Provide presentations and educational programs to schools, colleges, healthcare organizations, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, faith-based organizations, and community organizations.

Community Events and Tabling
  • Identify appropriate community events where SARC can provide education, resources, and information about available services.
  • Coordinate SARC participation in health fairs, resource fairs, community festivals, college events, awareness events, conferences, and other appropriate community activities.
  • Coordinate informational tables, educational displays, printed materials, promotional materials, and resources needed for community events.
  • Staff community outreach tables and coordinate staff or volunteer participation when additional assistance is needed.
  • Ensure educational materials are current, professional, trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and consistent with organizational and grant requirements.
  • Track attendance, community contacts, materials distributed, referrals, and other required outreach data.
Community Awareness and Education Initiatives
  • Assist in planning and implementing Sexual Assault Awareness Month activities and other community awareness campaigns throughout the year.
  • Coordinate the educational and community-awareness components of SARC events.
  • Develop creative opportunities to increase public understanding of sexual violence, consent, healthy relationships, risk reduction, survivor support, and available community resources.
  • Work collaboratively with community organizations on educational and awareness initiatives.
  • Assist with developing and implementing educational programs that are appropriate for schools, colleges, community organizations, professionals, and other audiences.
  • Help identify gaps in community knowledge and develop outreach strategies to address those needs.
Volunteer Coordination

The Community Outreach Coordinator and Partnerships Coordinator will collaborate when SARC participates in community events or initiatives involving both community education and organizational partnerships.

The Community Outreach Coordinator is primarily responsible for community education, awareness, informational events, tabling, presentations, community engagement, and volunteer coordination.

The Partnerships Coordinator is primarily responsible for corporate and community partnership development, sponsorships, donor relationships, resource development, and organizational support.

When an activity includes responsibilities associated with both positions, duties and staff time will be appropriately separated and documented in accordance with applicable funding requirements.
