College/Department Information

The Medical College of Georgia (MCG) is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 304 students per class. The MCG educational experience is anchored by the main campus in Augusta, with regional clinical campuses for third- and fourth-year students across the state, and two four-year campuses located in Athens (in partnership with the University of Georgia) and in Savannah (in partnership with Georgia Southern University). MCG's expanding partnerships with physicians and hospitals across Georgia currently provide more than 350 sites where students can experience the full spectrum of medicine, from complex care hospitals to small-town solo practices. MCG and its teaching hospitals also provide postgraduate education to approximately 575 residents and fellows in 50 different Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-approved programs. Our researchers and clinicians focus on what most impacts the health of Georgia's and America's children and adults, including cardiovascular biology and disease, cancer, neurosciences and behavioral sciences, public and preventive health, regenerative and reparative medicine, personalized medicine and genomics. Our physician faculty also share their expertise with physicians and patients at about 100 clinics and hospitals statewide.

Job Summary

Under the direction of Dr. Bevel, The Cancer Prevention Control and Population Health program at the Georgia Cancer Center are seeking a highly driven and talented candidate to fill the position of Community Outreach Coordinator/Research Assistant. The role will entail production of high-level data analyses, recruitment/retention of study participants and community partners, and maintenance of the hydroponic vertical garden associated with epidemiologic research and community outreach.

Responsibilities

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Screening, Recruitment, and Retention of Study Participants

Screening, recruitment, and retention of study participants/community partners in the Paceline grant and subsequent awards (HARVEST-HD).

Community outreach responsibilities include coordination of outreach to new community partners via existing community partners (e.g. Ebony Tree Farms, Studio Farmers Inc.).

Liaison to existing community partners about grant deliverables and future tasks.

Represent GCC at local/regional/state/national community events including but not limited to: health fairs, conferences, etc.

Maintain metrics for tracking outreach events as needed.

Participate in future intervention development.

Prepare Equipment and Supplies

Prepare equipment and supplies to conduct transplantation and harvest of organic produce from the modularized hydroponic vertical garden (aka micro-farm).

Data Analysis

Qualitative data analysis (descriptive statistics and thematic analysis of study participants).

Quantitative data analysis (primary and secondary analyses of food environment/obesity-related cancer data in SAS statistical software or other comparable statistical software).

Generating reports for dissemination from the respective data analyses.

Manuscript/Abstract Production

High-level literature reviews.

Assistance in the production of multiple manuscripts.

Assistance in the production of abstracts for poster/oral presentation at national/international public health conferences.

Record Results

Record results, quality control and maintenance of Excel spreadsheet for daily monitoring of micro-farm.

Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in related field and a minimum of 5 years of experience in public health and/or community outreach and/or applicable field.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days/M-F (work outside of normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position)

Pay Band: B12

Salary: $62,300/annually - $79,400/annually

Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position

Recruitment Period: 5/30/25 - Until Filled
