Community Outreach and Engagement Specialist

The Presidio Trust is seeking a Community Outreach and Engagement Specialist to join its Visitor Engagement Team. The Presidio Trust is a unique federal agency that stewards and shares the Presidio, one of the most visited national park sites in America and a place where people live and businesses thrive. The Trust manages the Presidio through a triple bottom line focus: being visited and loved by all, being a model of environmental stewardship, and demonstrating excellence in all our operations.

Reporting to the Community Partnerships Manager, the Community Outreach and Engagement Specialist supports the Presidio Trust’s efforts to ensure the Presidio is a welcoming, relevant, and accessible community resource. The Specialist facilitates, leads, and supports co-curated park experiences, visits, events, and other initiatives, with particular attention to communities that have historically not had access or felt welcome in national parks, including people from low-income communities and people with disabilities

This is a full-time position with benefits and a starting pay range of $82,916 to $102,296, based in the San Francisco Bay Area. The starting base salary is dependent on the experience and qualifications of the candidate. Applications received by October 9, 2026 will receive first consideration.

Responsibilities

• Community Access. Facilitates and coordinates opportunities for community groups to access, experience, and enjoy the Presidio. Works closely with community leaders and park staff to understand community interests, plan visits and coordinate logistics, including transportation. Draws upon knowledge of the park’s nature, history, and amenities, to co-curate relevant and welcoming park experiences.
• Community Co-curated Events & Activations. Supports and leadscollaboration with community partners and park staff to co-curate, plan, and implement park events & activations. Works closely with community leaders and park staff to manage event planning and implementation which may include program development, marketing and outreach, logistics, vendor contracting, permitting, and on-site support.
• Community Outreach & Relationship Building. Develops and maintains long-term, trust-based relationships with community leaders, organizations, and networks. Conducts outreach by participating in community meetings and events, sharing information about the Presidio, listening to community priorities and feedback, and identifying opportunities for partnership. Applies cultural humility and culturally relevant engagement practices when working across communities and settings.
• Program and Project Management. Leads and supports programs and projects that align with Community Partnership and agency goals and efficiencies. Projects may include community art, agency policy and procedures, education initiatives, interpretation, self-guided experiences, team protocols, etc.
• Community Feedback & Data. Solicits and documents community feedback and draws upon best practices, social science research, and other quantitative and qualitative data sources to inform decision-making. Translates findings into actionable recommendations that improve park experiences, programs, and community-serving infrastructure. Leads or supports the tracking, analysis, and regular reporting of agency key performance indicators (KPIs) and program outcomes.
• Agency Ambassador. Represents the Presidio and Presidio Trust professionally in a variety of settings, including community meetings, conferences, programs, public events, and partner engagements. At the direction of the Community Partnerships Manager, may serve as an agency representative for media opportunities, including radio, television, print, and digital media.
• Planning. Contributes to the ongoing planning, evaluation, and refinement of the Community Partnership Team’s strategies and priorities in alignment with the Presidio Trust’s mission and goals. Identifies opportunities, makes recommendations, shares lessons learned, and contributes to a collaborative and effective team environment.
• Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited university in relevant field such as park & recreation management, social science, ethnic studies, or environmental studies.
• Minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong facilitation skills.
• Excellent judgement, the ability to work both independently and collaboratively, and the ability to represent the Presidio and Presidio Trust in a positive manner across settings
• Ability to serve as an agent of the Trust ensuring protection of the park resources, compliance with relevant federal requirements and regulations, and by supporting community partners in navigating these requirements
• Strong project management and organizational skills
• Comfort and experience in engaging with a wide range of people and communities, including seniors, youth, adults, and people from various backgrounds and abilities.
• Strong relationship-building skills, ability to actively listen, engage, communicate clearly, follow through, and build trust
• Commitment to creating an inclusive team environment that honors diverse perspectives and experiences as well as creating a welcoming and inclusive park space and program experiences.
• Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. Ability to learn new computer systems including Salesforce
• Must possess and maintain a valid California driver’s license
• Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.

Desired Qualifications

• A passion for the mission and values of the Presidio Trust.
• Multilingual skills (Spanish, Cantonese/Mandarin, Vietnamese, and Tagalog preferred)
• Knowledge of the California’s ecology and history
• Training and/or educational background in cultural awareness, ethnic studies, and/or equitable practices.
• Experience building and maintaining collaborative relationships with community organizations, leaders, partners, and diverse stakeholders.

Background Check
This position is subject to an employment background check which shall consist of a review of applicable county, state and Federal criminal and civil records, state bankruptcy indexes, driver’s license, education, and employment history.
