Job description

Empowering and leading by example through worship, encouragement, recruiting, and outreach

About LCC
At Lakewood Church of Christ, we listen for the leading of the Holy Spirit, and we deeply desire to follow Jesus. We focus on building community on Sundays and reaching our neighborhood through our youth group and children’s ministry on Wednesday evenings. With a Sunday morning attendance between 50 and 90, we strive to experience God’s plan for the world through relationships.

We believe the Bible is the authoritative word of God. Jesus teaches us about faith, hope, and love, with the greatest of these being love. We seek to let the Spirit lead us regarding our traditions, so we can more effectively bless our community.

We seek to be Spirit‑led in equipping and training all of our members in utilizing their gifts, voices, and talents to bless our members and community both on Sundays and in our daily lives. On a typical Sunday morning worship service, you can expect to see a variety of traditions, including men and women speaking at the front, as well as a mixture of a cappella and instrument‑accompanied music. To see more of our distinctives, please find recordings of our worship services on our website.

About Our Community
We live in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, and our building is perched on a hill overlooking a community that is racially, ethnically, politically, and socioeconomically diverse. Much of our Lakewood community values equality and inclusivity. Both our Colorado natives and newcomers often spend substantial time in our mountains and open spaces.

About God’s Mission in Our Community
We seek to serve rather than be served. We believe each person at LCC is supposed to live out the Great Commission, so we desire to equip each person to effectively help others follow Christ. Our Sunday morning worship gathering includes the participation of many members in our speaking and teaching rotations, breakout groups, and our worship, media, and hospitality teams. We seek to improve our Sunday morning gatherings to have more energy, emotion, enthusiasm, and joy, and to be more adapted to our neighbors’ needs.

We value working together in unity, which can sometimes feel slow. We have recently sought the Spirit’s guidance through a period of self‑reflection in which we discovered the need for improved communication, better attitudes, and more focus on teamwork that honors God.

As representatives of God we realize there is always room for improvement, and we believe the Spirit is preparing and moving us in the direction of serving our neighborhood more effectively.

Desired Gifts for Ministry Candidates
We seek a humble leader who likes spending time with people, is doggedly optimistic about what God will do through others, and is willing to patiently guide others to do the work of spreading and embodying the good news. We’re not looking for a preacher who becomes the face of the congregation, but rather a person who is willing to focus on one‑on‑one and small group ministry.

We seek a gentle leader who strives for unity and can work well with fellow Christians, including our shepherding couples, youth minister, and part‑time office manager.

We seek a hospitable leader who desires to grow our congregation. God has blessed us with a group of individuals from a broad range of backgrounds (racially, socioeconomically, etc.) in our Wednesday night gatherings, and we would like to make our Sunday meetings a place where they and others can feel fully welcomed.

We seek a courageous leader who is strong enough in Bible knowledge and the guidance of the Holy Spirit to encourage the congregation in taking risks to further the kingdom, even if it threatens our nostalgic traditions. That person should possess patience and wisdom about the pace of change.

We would expect such a candidate to have at least a decade of ministry experience. We value academic degrees but don’t require them.

Ministry Activities
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, […] but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

Hebrews 10:24-25

We feel the Holy Spirit has provided us with guidance and direction for our congregation. This minister role would be to partner with us to inspire, recruit, and equip our people for service in the church and community with the goal of living out the great commission to seek and save the lost and to the glory of God’s kingdom.

  • Gently help us evaluate and adjust our traditions and activities as needed

  • Keep office hours at least one day a week
  • Be reasonably responsive to emails or other communications
  • Participate in leadership meetings
