Job summary

Capstone On-Campus Management is seeking a Community Manager for The Summit at Queens College in Flushing, NY. This on-site, live-on position leads housing operations and staff, manages budgets, and drives marketing/leasing efforts to ensure a fiscally sound, resident-focused community.

Responsibilities include overseeing facilities, capital planning, staff supervision, and serving as the primary campus contact for clients. Housing is provided with a competitive benefits package.

Salary Range: $80,000.00 To $87,000.00 Annually

Job Title: Community Manager Reports To: Regional Vice President Location: The Summit at Queens College, Flushing, NY Compensation: $80,000-$87,000 per year, staff apartment and competitive benefits package FLSA Status: Exempt
Summary:

The position serves as the on-site leader for residential housing operations at The Summit at Queens College in Flushing, NY. This role requires strong leadership, operational expertise, and interpersonal skills to support staff and residents while maintaining an efficient, fiscally sound operation. This is a full-time, live-on, in-person position with housing provided.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Oversight of all site operations including facilities maintenance and business operation
  • Development and management of operating budget and long-term capital plan
  • Supervision and human resource functions of all site employees
  • Planning of execution of marketing and leasing efforts
  • Management of all residence life functions including community engagement and conduc
  • Primary contact person for campus clients
Responsibility Details:
Facilities and Maintenance:
  • Community Manage will ensure execution of daily facilities maintenance, preventative maintenance, and housekeeping.
  • Identify vendors and negotiate contracts for services provided
  • Manage annual turn of units between contracts including communication with vendors, housing and contract maintenance staff, and walking units for final preparation prior to student move in.
  • Works directly with maintenance staff to ensure completion of work orders in a timely manner.
  • Plan and oversee capital projects and renovations.
Marketing and Leasing:
  • Community Manage will coordinate leasing and marketing initiatives, which includes the development and execution of a marketing plan and leasing timeline, in collaboration with the College.
  • Updates and maintains the site website and all digital and print marketing materials.
  • Participates in various recruitment events to market the residential community to prospective residents.
Operations:
  • Community Manager will provide fiscal oversight by managing the operating and capital budgets which includes developing annual budget proposals, presenting budgets to the institution for approval.
  • Ensures all expenditures fall within budget expectations.
  • Tracks and approving expenditures accounts payable functions.
  • Submits monthly budget variance explanations.
  • Communicates with COCM accountant staff
  • Oversees accounts payable and accounts receivable functions for the site.
Residence Life:
  • Will guide the development and execution of residential life curriculum and student programing within the residential community.
  • Serve as housing appeals conduct officer and maintain records.
  • Will participate in afterhours on call emergency response rotation.
Other Duties:
  • Community Manage requires a regular workday with additional responsibilities in the evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Participates in after hours on call emergency response rotation.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

An ideal candidate will have strong experience in financial reporting, facilities management/maintenance and capital planning, marketing (print, online, social media and events), managing housing contracts/assignments, accounts receivables/payables and feels comfortable and is fluid in social media platforms. Has excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact with campus partners, students, staff, families, and community members are needed. Effective time management, attention to detail, and the ability to manage competing priorities will be necessary for success too.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • 5 or more years of experience in student housing at a college or university, or equivalent field
  • Experience in facilities management or asset management including management of operating and capital budgets.
  • Supervision of full-time employees
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with students, staff, and campus partners.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and student housing management software.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment (e.g., copier, computer, telephone).
  • Experience supervising full-time staff.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Ability to live on-site and serve on-call rotation
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 35 pounds.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education or Business or a related field of study.
  • Demonstrated understanding and strong commitment to cultural diversity. Experience in an urban/metropolitan University setting.
  • Experience with Summer Conference housing preferred.
  • 5 or more years of experience in Housing/Residence Life at a College or University.
  • Experience working with undergraduate student populations in an on-campus housing environment.
  • Experience in occupancy management, facilities management or asset management including management of operating and capital budgets.
