Job summary

The Community Builders, Inc. seeks a Senior Manager for Community Life in Boston to lead activities across Dorchester properties and our neighborhood food pantry. You will supervise a small team, partner with residents and stakeholders, and drive programs aligned with housing stability, education, and mobility.

Responsibilities

  • Manage development and implementation of the Community Life CSP and annual workplan.
  • Supervise CL Service Coordinators, interns, and volunteers; oversee food pantry operations.
  • Report progress and manage CL activities ensuring high-quality, resident-centered approaches.
  • Support residents facing housing instability by connecting to reliable resources.
  • Coordinate biennial CLQ data collection from residents across sites.
  • Collaborate with property management to assess issues and provide referrals.
  • Develop partnerships with local providers focused on housing stability, education, mobility, health, and leadership.
  • Provide move-in orientations and staffing guidance for CL operations.
  • Manage administrative tasks including MOUs and petty cash reconciliation.
  • Ensure data input for all CL staff in CL Connect; track grant deliverables and budgets.
  • Participate in professional development and share best practices.
  • Coordinate with Boston-based staff and attend bi-monthly managers meetings.
  • Prioritize tasks and communicate needs for support.

The Community Life Senior Manager role at TCB

The CL Senior Manager works in close collaboration with TCB Property Management and Development teams to ensure CL operational excellence across the Boston Community Life portfolio. The position oversees the implementation of Community Life activities at two affordable housing properties in Dorchester and a small multi-service food pantry, in addition to supporting a neighborhood economic mobility initiative. The CL Senior Manager will supervise up to three CL Service Coordinators and work closely with residents, key stakeholders and partners to create pathways to resources and opportunities for every resident living in TCB Community Life properties.

Under the direct supervision of the Director of Community Life - Dorchester, Boston, the CL Senior Manager will:
  • Manage the development and implementation of the Community Success Plan (CSP), an annual workplan outlining strategies and activities that fit into properties' strategic objectives; assess and report on progress regularly
  • Supervise Community Life Service Coordinator(s), interns, and volunteers, ensuring accountability of site team for carrying out the programs and activities included in the site's CSP and operations of the food pantry
  • Report on progress and exercise authority as needed while managing CL activities to ensure high quality and resident-centered approaches.
  • Support residents experiencing housing instability by building trusting relationships and having a strong understanding of reliable, quality resources/organizations for which to make referrals, as needed;
  • Coordinate the collection of the biennial Community Life questionnaire (CLQ) from 30% of the residents across Community Life sites.
  • Collaborate with property management staff to assess complex issues; provide referrals and support as appropriate
  • Develop and manage strategic systems and partnerships with local service providers, organizations, hospitals, and universities focused on the following areas: housing stability, safety, early education, youth development, workforce development, economic mobility, health and wellness and resident leadership
  • Provide new move-in orientations, including for residents transitioning into permanent housing
  • Provide strategic guidance regarding staffing, site operations/capacity, and programming Manage administrative tasks, like preparing MOUs required for executing contracts to carry out programming; oversee the timely submission of petty cash requests and reconciliation
  • Ensure the collection and input of all program and performance data by all CL staff in the CL Connect database.
  • Manage progress towards fulfilling grant deliverables and implement budget spending
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and contribute to creating best practices
  • Coordinate with staff to ensure effective communication between site team, community partners, agencies, funders, and TCB corporate support
  • Collaborate with Community Life colleagues across Boston and participate in bi-monthly managers meetings
  • Prioritize tasks and communicate progress, problems, and needs for additional support.
  • Perform other project-related duties as needed

  • Demonstrated management/supervision ability and interest in motivating and energizing site staff, future hires, and partners
  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in using data and evaluations to inform practice and design
  • Experience engaging, communicating and collaborating with residents of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds in areas relating to housing stabilization and goal-setting
  • The assessment skills to support residents' well-being
  • Excellent organizational, communication (oral and written), and problem-solving skills
  • Strong personal initiative, attention to detail, and ability to work independently
  • Bachelor's Degree required, graduate degree in Social Work, Psychology or related field highly preferred; 5+ year of related experience, with prior experience supervising staff
  • Fluency in English and Spanish (oral and written) required
