Job summary

Samaritan Daytop Village, Inc. in New York City seeks a dedicated Food Service Worker to assist with food service operations, prepare nutritious meals, store unused food, wash dishes, and help distribute pre-cooked meals from an outside vendor.

Under supervision, you ensure adherence to health codes, maintain cleanliness, and support plating and serving to clients. Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED, NYC Food Protection Certificate, and at least one year of kitchen experience;

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required or equivalent.
• Certification for food services preparation preferred.
• Food Protection Certificate required by NYC DOHMH.
• At least one year of experience in food preparation and kitchen maintenance.
• Able to work a flexible schedule as needed.
• Computer literacy including Microsoft Office.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Experience working with diverse groups.

Responsibilities

• Assist with inventory, ordering, and food storage.
• Help ensure all food service operations comply with health and safety codes.
• Maintain a safe, sanitary work environment by cleaning and trash disposal.
• Clean pots and dishes while following safety standards.
• Assist with meal preparation and plating.
• Prepare simple meals such as salads or fruit plates.
• Cut, peel, or slice food as needed.
• Serve clients waiting in line for meals.
• Distribute pre-cooked meals from an outside vendor.
• Ensure quality and quantity of food preparation and delivery to clients.
• Engage in coordination activities as needed.
