Job summary

Samaritan Daytop Village, Inc. is seeking a Food Service Worker in New York City/region to help prepare nutritious meals and maintain a sanitary kitchen.

You will assist with inventory, food storage, and serving meals, while ensuring adherence to health and safety codes and the agency menu plan. Typical duties include assisting with meal preparation, plating, and distributing pre-cooked meals from an outside vendor, with attention to portion control and food safety standards.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED completed.
• Food safety and basic food preparation knowledge preferred.
• Food protection certificate issued by NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
• At least 1 year of experience in food preparation or kitchen maintenance.
• Flexible schedule availability to cover participant and staff needs.
• Computer literacy including Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Experience working with diverse populations.
• Team player who can also work independently.

Responsibilities

• Assist with inventory, ordering, and food storage.
• Ensure compliance with health and safety codes and agency menu plan.
• Maintain a clean, sanitary workspace by cleaning and washing dishes and tables.
• Clean pots and pans and other dishes, following safety standards.
• Assist with meal preparation and plating.
• Prepare simple meals such as salads or fruit plates.
• Assist by cutting, peeling, or slicing food as needed.
• Serve clients in line for meals and distribute pre-cooked meals from outside vendor.
• Ensure quality and quantity of food preparation and delivery, keeping food safe from contaminants.
