Job summary

The Benicia Police Department is recruiting for a Police Officer – Lateral to join a dedicated, service‑oriented agency that emphasizes proactive policing and strong community partnerships. Lateral officers currently working in California are encouraged to apply.

Interviews will be scheduled after a qualified applicant pool is established, with two separate recruitment tracks for Lateral and Academy/non-lateral candidates. Candidates are urged to apply soon through the Human Resources Department.

Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned beat by car or on foot; protect life and property.
• Investigate unusual or suspicious conditions; direct traffic and investigate accidents.
• Administer first aid and assist the injured.
• Make arrests, serve subpoenas and warrants, guard prisoners, interview suspects.
• Prepare notes and reports; collect evidence; testify in court.
• Provide information to the public on laws, safety and services.
