Job summary

The City of Tacoma is seeking a Heavy Equipment Operator to maintain and enhance the city’s infrastructure. You’ll operate wheel loaders, excavators, backhoes and other heavy equipment across Solid Waste, Street Operations and Tacoma Water, often under emergency call-out.

Two years’ experience, a WA driver license, and progression to a Class A CDL with Air Brake removal by probation are required. The recruitment establishes an eligibility list for one year and offers a union-represented

Qualifications

• Two years of work experience in construction or maintenance trades.
• Valid Washington State Driver license at time of appointment.
• Must obtain a valid Class A Washington State Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Air Brake Restriction removed by the end of the probationary period.
• Ability to operate equipment safely and follow directions.

Responsibilities

• Operate a wide range of heavy construction equipment across multiple city departments.
• Support maintenance, repair, operations and construction projects.
• Guide and support crew members and work independently when needed.
