Job summary

The American Heart Association offers a hands-on internship program for college students to gain experience in a nonprofit health organization. The role supports community health initiatives, education strategies, and culturally competent resources to prevent cardiovascular disease, hypertension, and stroke.

Hybrid work options available in Madison or Milwaukee, WI. Ideal candidates are seniors or graduate students in public health or related fields with strong research and communication skills.

Qualifications

• Seniors or graduate students pursuing public health or related degrees.
• Ability to research health topics and translate findings into actionable guidance.
• Knowledge of local healthcare systems preferred.
• Experience with community engagement and health initiatives.
• Willingness to travel to local events and meetings.
• Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
• Excellent oral, written, and presentation skills.
• Proficient in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams, PowerPoint, Canva.
• Reliable Wi-Fi and transportation required.
• Minimum availability 20 hrs/wk, M-F 9am-5pm.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Organize and implement community health initiatives.
• Support work on hypertension control, nutrition insecurity, and tobacco/vaping.
• Assist with internal program evaluations.
• Communicate impact of local work.
• Identify impact stories and develop materials for sharing.
• Create and manage a volunteer database and communications.
• Identify and develop community health resources and playbooks.
• Explore local organizations for collaboration.
• Plan and implement trainings and meetings.
• Attend internal and external meetings including health fairs.
• Assist with CPR demonstrations.
