Job summary

Market Umbrella is seeking a Part-time Market Coordinator to support the Crescent City Farmers Markets in New Orleans. The role covers market setup, customer service, and program administration, working year-round in a lively outdoor environment.

This public-facing position requires strong communication, cash handling, and willingness to work weekends. Experience with SNAP/EBT programs and vendor relations is a plus; compensation is $15 per hour for up to 28 hours weekly.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred in Public Health, Nutrition, Food Systems, Nonprofit Administration, Business, Hospitality, or related field — or equivalent work/lived experience.
• 1-2 years of experience in farmers market operations, community events, food access programs, retail, hospitality, or related customer-facing role.

Responsibilities

• Prepare market supplies prior to each market day: tokens, POS equipment, merchandise, market maps, signage, and all materials.
• Staff the welcome tent and provide excellent customer service to shoppers from diverse backgrounds.
• Process market sales and reconcile sales at close; handle phone and in-person inquiries.
• Administer market food access and nutrition incentive programs (e.g., SNAP/EBT, Market Match).
• Direct vendors to spaces, collect token reimbursements, and relay policy updates.
• Monitor safety, enforce market rules, and assist with special events and outreach.
