Job description

Join to apply for the Community Engagement Specialist II role at Montgomery College.

Montgomery College has an immediate need for (2) full-time Community Engagement Specialist II positions in the Advancement and Community Engagement Division, based out of the Central Services location, working at multiple community sites. The standard work schedule is 40 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, with occasional evening or weekend hours based on event schedules. This is a non-bargaining, non-exempt, grade 25 position, with up to two days of telework possible with supervisor approval.

The role involves engaging with the community to promote awareness of Montgomery College and assist residents with accessing post-secondary education through various outreach activities including appointments, workshops, community events, civic initiatives, campus tours, multilingual communications, and grassroots outreach.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Being the first point of contact for new and prospective students, businesses, and community members regarding college enrollment and engagement.
  2. Providing current information about college programs and resources for promotional purposes.
  3. Researching and directing residents to appropriate resources, troubleshooting, and follow-up.
  4. Organizing outreach, events, workforce development classes, and program coordination.
  5. Participating in outreach events such as high school visits, community nights, festivals, and college fairs.
  6. Partnering with community organizations, schools, and businesses for sessions, workshops, and presentations.
  7. Tracking data on community engagement activities and producing monthly reports.
  8. Conducting advising sessions (virtual and in-person) on enrollment, registration, scholarships, FAFSA, etc.
  9. Performing additional duties as assigned.

Additional focus areas include:

  • Business Engagement: Connecting businesses and employers to college programs and establishing partnerships for workforce training and internships.
  • Civic Engagement: Supporting civic events, voter education, service learning, and organizing civic activities on campus.

Qualifications include an associate degree in a relevant field, at least two years of outreach or community engagement experience, strong communication skills, ability to transport outreach materials, and proficiency with Microsoft Office, social media, and flyer design software. Preferred qualifications include bilingual abilities, customer service skills, and experience representing organizations publicly.

The hiring range is $27.68 - $35.98 per hour, with a maximum of $44.27, based on experience and internal equity.

Application requires a cover letter, and for degrees earned outside the U.S., an education equivalency evaluation is necessary. Employment conditions include a background check, degree verification, and participation in the Maryland State Retirement System.
