The Afghan Support Network is the first culturally specific nonprofit organization formed to address the needs of Afghan refugees and the Afghan-American community in Oregon and Southwest Washington.

Location: Remote – Based in Salem, OR

Term: Full Time, Exempt

Salary: $57,000 – $62,000 Annually

About the Afghan Support Network

The Afghan Support Network is dedicated to supporting Afghan refugees and the Afghan-American community through culturally responsive programs and services.

Job Summary

The Community Engagement Manager will serve as the primary representative of ASN in Salem, responsible for expanding ASN’s presence, building partnerships, and providing culturally responsive support to Afghan community members. This role involves developing community relationships, supporting the establishment of a Salem office, and delivering client services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Serve as ASN’s primary point of contact and representative in Salem, promoting ASN’s mission and services.
  2. Develop partnerships with local organizations, service providers, government agencies, and community leaders.
  3. Assess community needs and collaborate to design culturally specific programs and services.
  4. Lead efforts to establish a physical ASN office in Salem.
  5. Represent ASN in coalitions, advocacy groups, and public events.
  6. Engage in outreach and education to ensure community awareness of ASN’s services.
  7. Foster an inclusive Afghan community where individuals feel a sense of belonging and empowerment.
  8. Provide culturally and linguistically appropriate case management services, including housing, benefits, school enrollment, healthcare, and employment support.
  9. Conduct home visits and community meetings to assess needs and provide ongoing support.
  10. Help clients navigate local systems and advocate for their rights.
  11. Maintain accurate client records and ensure confidentiality and compliance.
  12. Collect data and report on community trends and client outcomes.
  13. Perform additional duties as needed.
Requirements
  • Fluency in English and Dari and/or Pashto.
  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to pass an extensive background check.
  • Availability for occasional evening and weekend work.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Human Services, Public Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Minimum of 2 years in case management, community outreach, or nonprofit coordination.
  • Strong understanding of Afghan culture and refugee resettlement.
  • Ability to build relationships within diverse communities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and advocacy skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
