Position Description

Reporting to the Senior Director of Programs, the Community Engagement Manager plays a vital role in advancing Volunteer New York!’s mission to inspire volunteerism and foster inclusive communities. This position leads efforts to engage individuals across all ages, stages, and abilities — including those with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD) — and connect them meaningfully to local volunteer opportunities. The Community Engagement Manager is responsible for building and maintaining strong community and nonprofit relationships, coordinating impactful volunteer initiatives, and representing the organization at community events.

The ideal candidate is an enthusiastic communicator who thrives on connecting with diverse audiences—including nonprofit professionals, youth, older adults, individuals with I/DD, and working professionals. They are organized, proactive, and able to juggle multiple projects, both in the office and in the community, with professionalism and positivity. Familiarity with Westchester and surrounding communities is preferred.

Core Responsibilities

  • Promote volunteerism by representing Volunteer New York! at fairs, expos, street festivals, and community events
  • Develop and execute an outreach strategy targeting priority neighborhoods
  • Identify and utilize public venues (e.g., libraries, community centers, grocery stores) to share volunteer opportunities and organizational information

Community Partner Relations:

  • Cultivate new and maintain existing collaborative relationships with nonprofit and community partners
  • Represent Volunteer New York! at nonprofit coalitions, partner meetings, and community forums
  • Provide support to the Emerging Nonprofits Pilot Program, in order to strengthen the local nonprofit sector overall

Program Coordination:

  • Plan, implement, and evaluate well-organized community-day action days, including 9/11: Serve + Remember, the MLK Day of Service, New Rochelle Parks Cleanup Weekend
  • Collaborate with the Marketing & Communications Manager to promote and recruit volunteers for community-wide action days
  • Oversee and provide all administrative aspects of the Leadership Westchester program
  • Liaison and maintain relationship with Leadership Westchester class facilitator
  • Work with the Senior Director of Development to engage and support the Leadership Westchester Alumni Association
  • Track and analyze program data, including volunteer engagement metrics, referral trends and Leadership Westchester impact metrics; generate reports as needed
  • Assist, as necessary, with organization-wide initiatives such as Annual Volunteer New York! Volunteer Spirit Awards celebration, and corporate days of service

Experience and Competencies

  • Takes initiative! Passionate about going out into the community to increase awareness of Volunteer New York! programs and services
  • Passionate about building stronger more resilient communities by supporting hundreds of nonprofits
  • Exceptional attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. You’re comfortable talking with a broad range of individuals (all ages and stages) and groups (schools and faith based) and nonprofits via in person/Zoom presentations
  • Strong administrative and organizational skills; ability to prioritize and manage many projects simultaneously, including managing time and schedule for maximum effectiveness and efficiency
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team
  • Broad-based computer skills, Salesforce experience a plus, strong understanding of database work, and Excel for data entry, creating and generating reports
  • Ability to maintain own timelines and meet own deadlines
  • Must have own transportation and be able to lift/move up to 20 pounds
  • You can manage a flexible schedule, including the ability to work evenings & occasional weekends (approximately 1-2 nights/weekends scheduled as needed, per month)

Schedule: Full-time position: 35 hours per week, hybrid; Ability to work occasional weekends and evenings, as needed (typically 1-2 nights/weekends per month).

Compensation: Annual compensation $55,000 to $58,000 based upon prior experience along with a very competitive benefits package including a health insurance plan, a retirement plan, and more!
