Job summary

City of Phoenix is seeking a part-time AmeriCorps member for the Office of Accountability and Transparency (OAT) to engage with the community, support youth programming, and coordinate events in Phoenix.

Responsibilities include building relationships with the public, presenting to groups, and coordinating ongoing events. The role offers a living stipend, an AmeriCorps education award after service, and professional development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Some experience in social work, education, journalism, or marketing is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain relationships between the public and the Office of Accountability and Transparency (OAT) department.
• Forge community partnerships, provide resources, give community presentations, table events, co-facilitate youth programming and coordinate ongoing events and workshops with partners.
• Co-facilitate youth programming, assist with community presentations, table events, meet and greets, post on social media pages, and other administrative duties to assist community engagement team.
• Desired weekly schedule would be 30-35 hours a week, including some holidays, evenings, and weekends for events in the community.
• Bi-weekly pre-tax living stipend while in service: $960.00
• Segal AmeriCorps Education award after successfully completing service: $3,697.50
• Student loan forbearance and interest repayment for qualifying federal student loans
• Professional development opportunities and training

Job description

Organization and mission:

The City of Phoenix Office of Accountability and Transparent (OAT) serves Phoenix community youth and teaches them fundamentals about civilian oversight and provides education about community resources,

mentorship of financial literacy, mental health, and continued education.

OAT’s responsibilities include:

• Receiving and referring complaints, concerns, comments, and commendations about Police Department personnel, policies, and procedures.
• Reviewing Police Department administrative investigations of certain incidents and misconduct allegations.
• Making recommendations to the Police Chief regarding policy, rules, and training issues.
• Engaging in community outreach within the Phoenix community through meetings, public presentations, and communication via social media.
• Providing annual public reports about OAT’s work and operations.
• Conducting community-police mediations.
• Supporting services to impacted community members.
• Administering a youth outreach program.
• Facilitating the Civilian Review Board.
