Qualifications

Community Engagement & Communications Manager

• Committment: 20 hours per week
• Location: Flexible. Office, remote, and hybrid options available. Office located at6 Brown Street, Kennebunk.
• Salary: $23.00 – 25.00 per hour

Position Summary

The Community Engagement & Communications Coordinator plays a central role in connecting people to land conservation. This position leads the Land Trust’s outreach and storytelling efforts building awareness, inspiring participation, and strengthening relationships across the community. Through thoughtful communications, events, and partnerships, this role helps ensure that more people know, value, and actively care for the region’s lands and waters. Kennebunk Land Trust’s new 5-year Strategic Plan, and current fundraising best practices will help inform and guide priorities and activities. The position will have dedicated space in the KLT offices at 6 Brown Street. Schedule and remote versus in-person work can be discussed to be conducive to both KLT and the applicant.

Key Responsibilities

• Communications & Storytelling
  • Develop and implement a year-round communications calendar across digital and print platforms in partnership with the Executive Director.
  • Create content strategy for eNewsletters and print newsletters. Work with the E.D. to write and oversee production of e-newsletters and printed newsletters. Design print newsletters and e-newsletter template for increased interest, engagement, and education on KLT’s work and mission.
  • Create compelling stories highlighting landowners, volunteers, donors, and overall conservation impact; written in a reader-centered manner. Designed to inspire.
  • Manage and grow social media presence through a content strategy that provides consistent, mission-driven content, conveys our values, elevates conservation as an important part of the community, and provides continued inspiration through strong visuals.
  • Maintain and update website content to ensure accessibility, clarity, and engagement.
  • Develop brochures, signage, and on-site interpretive materials that connect visitors to conserved lands.
  • Help position the Land Trust as a trusted, visible voice on conservation and climate-related topics. Share clear and inspiring messaging about the benefits of conservation.
  • Support advocacy efforts consistent with organizational values and priorities.
  • Increase KLT’s communications around the conservation impacts of donors and our work in multiple ways – online, mailers, newsletters, etc.
• Fundraising
  • Integrate fundraising messages into communications in ways that inspire giving and connection.
  • Assist with fundraising appeals (print and e-appeals), draft thank you letters and notes, and create enclosures. Provide editing and production assistance.td>
  • Serve as a back-up for donor database (CRM) gift entry and processing as needed.
• Community Engagement & Events
  • Plan, promote, and attend community programs, workshops, and events (on average one per month)
  • Represent the land trust at local events such as May Day celebrations, Harvest Fest, and other community gatherings. This may included evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Engage visitors and participants as an ambassador – welcoming, listening, and building relationships. Enter contacts and key conversations in the donor database.
  • Coordinate volunteer engagement, facilitate a robust volunteer program, and help cultivate a network of community ambassadors.
  • Support development of programs that deepen connections to land (e.g., stewardship workshops, youth programs, design and schedule nature walks).
• Partnerships & Outreach
  • Build and maintain relationships with local organizations, schools, and community groups. Collaborate on programs and initiatives that connect conservation to community well-being.
  • Participate in community conversations and partnerships aligned with the Land Trust’s mission.
  • Assist in outreach to new and underrepresented audiences to broaden engagement.

Preferred Qualifications (not all need to be met in order to apply)

• Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills across multiple formats. Familiarity with fundraising writing, appreciation, and engagement.
• Experience with collaborative processes, including working with volunteers and content creation.
• Experience with digital communications tools (email platforms, social media, website management)
• Demonstrated learner, willingness to play an integrated role within the organization
• Graphic design skills (e.g., Canva, Adobe Suite) preferred
• Experience with WordPress preferred
• Experience with online newsletter softy (e.g. Constant Contact)
• Excellent interpersonal skills and a passion for community engagement
• Ability to manage multiple projects and maintain a consistent communications schedule
• Interest in conservation, land stewardship, and community-based work
• Experience with event planning, outreach, or nonprofit communications preferred
