Job summary

The Los Lunas Police Department is seeking a dedicated Police Officer to uphold the Constitution, enforce laws, and foster trust within the community. You will patrol, respond to incidents, investigate, and contribute to public safety through collaboration with fellow officers and local agencies.

You will engage in continuous training, participate in crisis intervention, and maintain proficiency with firearms and equipment while working varied shifts including nights and weekends.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED certificate required.
• Valid Police Officer Certification required.
• Completion of Police Academy training (18 weeks) required.
• DWI certification, Firearms qualification, Driving certification, Defensive tactics, Crisis intervention training preferred.
• Strong commitment to public safety, community service, and ethical conduct.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to make quick decisions under pressure.
• Physical fitness and stamina needed for duties.
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
• Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays; on-call status.

Responsibilities

• Patrol assigned areas to prevent and detect criminal activity; respond to emergencies.
• Enforce local, state, and federal laws while respecting rights.
• Maintain visible community presence; engage in community policing.
• Build positive relationships with community members and stakeholders.
• Respond to and investigate incidents and public safety concerns.
• Conduct interviews, gather evidence, and prepare reports.
• Perform traffic enforcement to ensure road safety.
• Participate in crime prevention and education programs.
• Attend and testify in court when required.
• Collaborate with officers and other agencies to address safety challenges.
• Engage in ongoing professional development and training.
