Job summary

Under supervision, officers patrol, enforce laws, and engage in community policing. Training at a POST-certified Academy is provided for selected candidates. Lateral hires require prior POST certification and two years of full-time experience.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years of age at time of appointment.
• Possess a High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• Possess Certificate of Completion from an accredited basic P.O.S.T Academy.
• Must possess or be eligible for a valid First Aid Certificate issued by the American Red Cross and validated CPR within one year of appointment.
• Must meet all other current requirements per POST.
• Must possess a valid Class C California Driver’s License.
• Lateral applicants must possess a Basic P.O.S.T. Certificate and have two years of full-time experience.

Responsibilities

• Patrols assigned areas to prevent crime and enforce laws.
• Responds to calls for service and conducts preliminary investigations.
• Interacts with the public and participates in community policing initiatives.
• Provides first aid and medical assistance as needed and coordinates with other agencies.
• Attends meetings and trainings; collaborates with other city departments as required.
