Job summary

Kinexus Group in Michigan is seeking a Community Coordinator to build and coordinate relationships with county and state agencies, nonprofits, and employers to support re-entry and employment outcomes. You will lead regional teams, monitor contracts and budgets, prepare reports, and connect services to reduce recidivism while aligning with Kinexus’ mission.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in a relevant field and at least 3 years in a community resource role.
  • Experience building partnerships with government, nonprofits, and private sectors.
  • Knowledge of grant regulations and budget management.

Responsibilities

  • Identify community assets to improve parolee success and gaps in services, including subcontractor recruitment.
  • Recruit and manage regional Steering Team and Advisory Council, maintain roster, report KPI, and run meetings.
  • Plan, organize, monitor, and evaluate services delivered by contractors under the Offender Services Director.
  • Prepare monthly reports and other system reports to ensure contract goals are met.
  • Create partnerships with government, nonprofit, and private orgs to leverage contributions for re-entry.
  • Identify grant opportunities and assist with proposal submissions.
  • Suggest policy and process improvements to support returning ex-offenders.
  • Mentor the Offender Success Team and integrate finance with Kinexus to reduce duplication.
  • Demonstrate accountability and align with Kinexus mission and values.

We facilitate the reentry process for the Offender Success Program, ensuring all services meet Michigan Department of Corrections policies, procedures, and financial requirements.

Our Desired Outcomes

This position involves building and coordinating relationships with a broad array of community stakeholders across Berrien, Cass, Van Buren, Kalamazoo, Saint Joseph, Branch, and Calhoun counties. The goal is to create a safety net of support and re‑employment services for individuals returning from Michigan State correctional institutions. Key responsibilities include building sub‑grantee capacity, analyzing and negotiating contracts, monitoring vendor performance, resolving service delivery issues, acting as liaison to MDOC Parole Offices, managing budgets, and coordinating activities to improve employment outcomes and reduce recidivism rates.

What We Expect From You

The Community Coordinator is a key player within the Offender Success Team and will be given the tools and support necessary to perform all functions of the position with excellence.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Identify community assets that improve parolee success and gaps in services, including subcontractor recruitment.
  • Recruit and manage the regional Steering Team and Advisory Council members in compliance with grant regulations, maintain an active roster, produce KPI reports, and facilitate regular Steering Team meetings.
  • Plan, organize, control, integrate, monitor, and evaluate the services provided by contractors/vendors engaged in re‑entry services under the guidance of the Offender Services Director.
  • Prepare monthly reports and other system reports to ensure contract goals and objectives are met.
  • Create and maintain partnerships with government, nonprofit, and private organizations to leverage contributions for successful re‑entry.
  • Identify available grant funding and work with the OS Program Manager to provide technical assistance for proposal submissions.
  • Recommend improvements to policies, systems, resources, and services that support returning ex‑offenders in the community.
  • Perform additional duties assigned by the MDOC and Director of Offender Service.
  • Manage and mentor the Offender Success Team’s growth and development.
  • Integrate the finance team within the larger Kinexus Team to reduce duplication, streamline services, and maximize resources.
  • Demonstrate accountability, aligning with Kinexus’ mission, vision, and values.
  • Model the goal‑oriented, collaborative style of our Team‑of‑Teams approach.
Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Non‑Profit Administration, or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in community resource acquisition.
  • Previous experience in a community resource role.
Preferred Experience
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field (Criminal Justice, Social Work, Non‑Profit Administration).
  • 5+ years in a community resource leadership role.
  • Knowledge of the re‑entry or corrections process.
  • Background in forging key community partnerships for resource leveraging.
  • Experience with contract and budget management.
