Job summary

The City of Plymouth is seeking a custodian to help keep the Plymouth Community Center clean, well-maintained, and welcoming for all ages during events and daily activities.

Shifts vary from 4 to 6 hours and may change based on building activity; no extensive experience is required beyond training, with on-site upkeep of floors, restrooms, and common areas.

Responsibilities

• Perform janitorial duties to maintain cleanliness throughout the community center and its grounds
• Complete facility set-ups and teardowns for room arrangements under the direction of the Facility Coordinator/Building Supervisors
• Change light bulbs, wash windows, clean restrooms, restock supplies, mop floors, dust, and perform light repairs
• Operate maintenance equipment, including floor scrubbers, vacuums, and sweepers
• Work independently and efficiently, including during busy times
• Interact with the public in a professional manner
• Custodial or janitorial experience preferred, but training is provided

Job description

The custodian plays a vital role in ensuring the cleanliness, maintenance, and proper setup of the Plymouth Community Center. This position is essential for creating a welcoming environment for our community. This position wouldassistin preparing for and cleaning up from birthday parties, playground activities, weddings, meetings, classes & programs for children and seniors, and more.

Shift lengths and start times may vary based on building activities. Individuals can anticipate scheduled shifts being 4 – 6 hours in length.

Job Responsibilities

• Perform janitorial duties to maintain cleanliness throughout the community center and its grounds
• Complete facility set-ups and teardowns for room arrangements under the direction of the Facility Coordinator/Building Supervisors
• Conduct tasks such as changing light bulbs, washing windows, cleaning restrooms, restocking inventory, mopping floors, dusting, and performing light repairs
• Operate maintenance equipment, including floor scrubbers, vacuums, and sweepers.
• Must be able to work independently and efficiently; must be capable of working effectively during busy times.
• Must have interpersonal skills to interact with the public in a professional manner
• Previous custodial or janitorial experience preferred, but training is provided.

Physical Qualifications:

• This position will require physical labor in the form of moving tables, chairs and full trash bags.
