Job summary

University Health in Kansas City, MO is hiring a Peer Support Specialist for Futures Family Support in The Loft at Crossroads. This role focuses on using lived experience to support clients with behavioral health and substance use recovery, linking families to services and helping set goals in a collaborative, team-based environment.

The position is community-based with 8:00 AM–5:00 PM hours and requires reliable transportation.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED; strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Lived experience with behavioral health or substance use recovery.
  • Certification as a Certified Peer Specialist (CPS) through the Missouri Credentialing Board; if not yet certified, obtain within 90 days of hire.
  • Reliable transportation.
  • Completion of all required orientation and training within the established timeline.

Responsibilities

  • Client Champion: Work with clients in inpatient and outpatient settings to ensure needs are met and high-quality care is provided. When applicable, support the entire family unit by coordinating with parents or guardians.
  • Peer Support Specialist: Use personal experience with behavioral health or substance use recovery to inspire hope, help clients reconnect with treatment plans, and support goal setting and barrier removal.
  • Crisis Response: Respond quickly in crisis situations, intervene when needed, and coordinate referrals or treatment team involvement as appropriate.
  • Team Collaboration: Work with the interdisciplinary team to prevent hospitalizations and relapses and refine individualized treatment plans.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate, up-to-date clinical records in line with University Health standards and submit within 24 hours; manage Release of Information (ROI) documents per protocol.
  • Productivity and Compliance: Meet productivity targets and stay current on laws, regulations, and standards; participate in required training.
  • Continuous Improvement: Drive quality improvement and promote an inclusive, welcoming environment for clients and staff.
  • Age-Appropriate Care: Tailor approach to the client’s age and developmental stage.
  • Customer Service Excellence: Maintain a friendly, professional demeanor with clients, families, and coworkers.
