Job summary

The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD in Houston seeks a Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) to join our care coordination team.

You will conduct counseling, outreach, and assessments for residents with substance use disorders, coordinating care to access mental health and medical services. Travel and flexible hours are required.

Education: high school diploma; Bachelor’s in Human Services preferred; Texas LCDC license.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in the Human Services field (psychology, sociology, etc.) preferred.
  • At least two years as an Alcoholism / Chemical Dependency Counselor preferred.
  • Outreach and engagement experience preferred.
  • Valid Texas Driver’s license and LCDC license.

Responsibilities

  • Performs specialized supportive counseling, screenings, and assessments for consumers with substance use disorders or dual diagnoses.
  • Provides outreach services with the team to eligible population to increase access to substance use, mental health, and medical services.
  • Maintains familiarity of current community resources for target population.
  • Ensures all services provided meet eligibility criteria and are authorized in accordance with agency and regulatory guidelines.
  • Conducts training/education on substance use, triggers, and coping mechanisms.
  • Monitors eligibility requirements for ongoing treatment using agency reports.
  • Be flexible to meet ongoing agency needs.
  • Demonstrates ethical conduct in clinical and professional activities.
  • Builds working relationships with community agencies.
  • Enters data into required systems (HMIS; Anasazi).
