Job description

Community Association (HOA) Attorney - Remote, Florida

Department: Jimerson Birr

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Jacksonville, Florida

Compensation: $85,000 - $125,000 / year

Description

At Jimerson Birr, our team has accepted the lasting responsibility of protecting our clients’ rights, businesses, properties, investments, and finances.

Our professionals are integral, trusted advisers and advocates in both established and emerging businesses, giving our clients insights into legal and business considerations that guide prudent decision-making. We work with some of the world’s most respected and well-established businesses, as well as start-up visionaries, and individuals looking to overcome challenges.

About the Role:

We help community associations operate with clarity, compliance, and confidence. We’re seeking a Community Association, HOA, Attorney, who enjoys diving into the details, solving complex governance challenges, and becoming a trusted advisor to boards navigating high-stakes decisions.

This is a client-facing role with a defined portfolio from day one. You’ll work closely with association boards across Florida, providing practical legal guidance, drafting governing documents, and helping communities stay compliant while operating effectively. If you enjoy structured problem-solving, technical legal work, and being the steady voice in complex situations, this role is built for you.

This is your seat if:

You’re a thoughtful, analytical attorney who prefers to get it right the first time. You’re comfortable working independently but value structure, clear expectations, and well-defined processes.

You approach problems logically and communicate in a direct, straightforward way, especially when boards need clear, practical answers. While you may not be the loudest voice in the room, you build trust through consistency, preparation, and sound judgment.

You enjoy technical legal work and take pride in your ability to interpret statutes, draft precise documents, and guide clients through nuanced issues. You’re adaptable when priorities shift, but you perform best when you can fully understand the issue at hand and provide a well-reasoned solution.

What You Will Do

Advise & Guide Boards

  • Serve as day-to-day counsel to HOA and COA boards across Florida.
  • Provide guidance on governance, budgeting, reserves, and operational decision-making.
  • Deliver clear, practical legal advice on regulatory and compliance matters.

Draft & Structure

  • Draft, review, and amend governing documents, including Declarations, Bylaws, and Rules.
  • Support developer turnover and assist in structuring community associations.
  • Conduct document audits and recommend updates to align with current law.

Ensure Compliance

  • Stay current on Florida community association law and regulatory changes.
  • Translate legal updates into actionable guidance for clients.
  • Help associations maintain compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements.

Support Dispute Resolution & Collections

  • Assist with covenant enforcement matters and pre-litigation processes.
  • Support litigation efforts, including drafting demands, pleadings, and motions.
  • Guide assessment collection strategies alongside the firm’s collections team.
What You Bring
  • Active membership in good standing with The Florida Bar.
  • 2–5 years of legal experience, with exposure to community association law, real estate, or litigation.
  • Strong drafting skills across legal documents, contracts, and/or litigation materials.
  • Ability to analyze complex legal issues and provide clear, structured guidance.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and follow-through.
  • Professional, direct communication style with clients and colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Florida community association law (transactional or litigation).
  • Familiarity with developer turnover, governance structuring, or document amendments.
  • Exposure to covenant enforcement, collections, or related litigation.
  • Involvement with Community Associations Institute (CAI) or interest in participation.
