Job Description

Rees Broome, PC, a Top 20 law firm in Virginia, is recruiting for an associate with 2-4 years of general collections experience to assist our community association and HOA clients in our Community Association practice group. This position offers competitive compensation and a generous bonus plan. The firm actively engages in its associates’ professional growth.

Requirements: Candidates must be licensed in Maryland. Our ideal candidate will have 2-4 years’ experience practicing general collections work for banks or other creditors, exceptional research and communication skills, a strong attention to detail, the ability to manage multiple clients simultaneously, and excellent academic credentials.

Responsibilities:
  1. Manage a caseload of 250-400 active collection cases from initial intake to closing of files independently.
  2. Collaborate with paralegals, administrative assistants, and Shareholders on collection cases.
  3. Review and interpret client documents; draft legal opinions for Shareholder review.
  4. Handle court appearances in multiple jurisdictions and enforce covenants through abatement court cases.
  5. Communicate regularly with community association clients and management agents; provide status reports.
  6. Manage billing for hourly and fixed fee collections work.
  7. Attend on-site meetings at community associations to oversee elections and Board meetings.
Qualifications:
  1. JD from an accredited law school.
  2. Admitted to practice in Maryland.
  3. 2-4 years’ experience in collections, including compliance with the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, district court, and post-judgment enforcement.
  4. Strong analytical, written, and oral communication skills.
  5. Legal project management experience is helpful.
  6. Experience managing paralegals and staff.
