At O-Town Compost, we're on a mission to transform Central Florida into a zero-waste community. Since our inception in 2020, we've diverted over 100,000 pounds of food waste weekly, turning it into nutrient-rich compost that revitalizes local soils and supports sustainable agriculture. Our services span residential, commercial, office, and event composting, all designed to make composting effortless and impactful for our community.
Job Overview
We’re hiring a Sales & Community Engagement Representative to lead our expansion in Tampa Bay and Lakeland. This isn’t your average sales role—it’s for someone who sees building a greener future as part of their identity. You’ll be the face of O-Town Compost in your region, meeting people, building relationships, and showing communities how they can be part of the solution.
Physical Requirements
You should:
- Be comfortable working outdoors in changing Florida weather
- Hold a valid Florida driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs—collection work involves hauling, prepping, and ensuring smooth field operations
Location & Schedule
This role is based in the Tampa Bay/Lakeland area and combines fieldwork and remote work. You’ll drive compost collection routes 1–2 days per week, beginning at our Dover, FL, location, where our truck and equipment are stored. The rest of your workweek is remote. This is a 40-hour/week position, but the schedule is flexible—perfect for someone who thrives with autonomy and self-management.
From time to time, we participate in community events like farmers’ markets, workshops, and outreach days. You may be asked to join the O-Team to represent O-Town Compost, connect with the public, and promote our mission.
What You Do
- Grow the Movement: Identify and engage potential residential and commercial clients—restaurants, offices, events, you name it. Your goal is to grow our composting community.
- Show Up Locally: Represent O-Town Compost at markets, workshops, and local events to spread awareness and share our story.
- Pitch In Hands-On: Spend 1–3 days a week on collection routes to understand the service, connect with clients, and live the experience.
- Support & Serve: Be a go-to contact for clients—answer questions, solve problems, and celebrate composting wins.
- Coordinate with Ops: Work with our team to improve logistics, routes, and service delivery as we grow.
- Track & Report: Keep detailed notes on outreach, follow-ups, and event outcomes to help us grow smarter.
- Use Tools to Stay Organized: Use scheduling software and CRM tools to track leads, manage follow-ups, and stay on top of your pipeline.
Who You Are
- Built for the Mission: Composting and sustainability are part of who you are—you’d talk about food waste over dinner, and you probably have.
- Naturally Persuasive: You build trust and inspire action. You’re not selling a service, you’re inviting people to be part of something meaningful.
- On-the-Go: You love the idea of a mobile workday and aren’t afraid to roll up your sleeves and get in the field.
- Team Player: You believe composting is a collective effort and love working alongside a crew who feels the same.
- Tech-Savvy & Resourceful: You use technology to optimize your time and provide great service—whether it’s mapping routes, managing leads, or staying organized on the go.
- Quick on Your Feet: You're a creative problem solver and can pivot when needed, without losing momentum.
- Detail-Oriented: You track the little things that help build a big movement—names, follow-ups, feedback, and more.
- Safety-Minded: You prioritize safety—for yourself, your team, and the communities we serve.
Bonus Points
- Degree in business, environmental science, or related field
- Waste hauling or logistics experience
- Experience launching or scaling a new market
- Strong local connections in Tampa Bay or Lakeland
- Background in outreach, advocacy, or sustainability work
What We Provide
- Meaningful Work: Every day, your actions help reduce waste and build a more sustainable future.
- Room to Grow: As we expand, so do the opportunities—for leadership, innovation, and impact.
- Great People: You’ll work with a team that’s passionate, down-to-earth, and deeply committed to the cause.
- Solid Benefits: $700/month healthcare stipend, 3% IRA match, flexible schedule, paid training, vision/dental coverage, and more.
