Qualifications

  • 2+ years in electric utility or similar industry focused on electronic communications.
  • Experience with installation and repair of communication systems.

Responsibilities

  • Test and repair communication and system control equipment.
  • Maintain records of installation and maintenance activities.
  • Promote safety practices and participate in safety meetings.

Skills

Installation of VHF radios

Job description

Position Summary
Performs projects, procedures, or tasks related to the installation, testing, repair, and maintenance of electronic equipment used in voice, analog, digital, tone, and other two-way communication systems. Reads and reports levels at test points to verify operating parameters. Makes revisions and troubleshoots the internal LAN information system. Participates in training to develop expertise in abnormal conditions and advanced technologies related to Hoosier Energy's communication and system control equipment.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Tests, analyzes, repairs malfunctions in communication, system control, and LAN equipment, ensuring proper operation and system continuity.
  2. Assists higher-class technicians in testing, operating, or repairing microwave, SCADA, and multiplex equipment.
  3. Performs routine installations and commissions equipment listed in Duty A.
  4. Maintains records through sketches, notes, graphs, and reports about installation, testing, repair, and maintenance activities.
  5. Prepares reports to meet FCC requirements.
  6. Manages the utilization, maintenance, and security of tools, test equipment, vehicles, and work areas.
  7. Recommends improvements to practices, procedures, and system requirements to the supervisor.
  8. Promotes and maintains safe work practices, participates in safety meetings and first aid classes.
  9. Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Specifications
Education
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, with additional coursework in electronics and technology.
Experience
  • At least two years in electric utility or similar industry with a focus on electronic communications equipment.
Skills and Abilities
  • Experience with installation, testing, maintenance, and repair of VHF radios, power line carriers, microwave, computers, multiplex, and telemetering equipment; second class FCC license; valid driver’s license.
Working Conditions
  • Primarily field environment, may require extended hours.
  • Must be willing to relocate within a 35-mile radius of English, Indiana.
