Job summary

Valley Metro RPTA seeks a skilled technician to maintain and troubleshoot transit communications, fare systems, and safety-critical equipment. You will handle SCADA, CCTV, PA systems, and related network components in a hands-on role.

The position requires a background in electronics or communications with hands-on experience and a willingness to obtain necessary licenses. A clean driving record and ability to work variable shifts are preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED with 1 year in comms systems maintenance.
• Experience with network hardware diagnostics and SCADA operations.
• Equivalent education plus experience acceptable; no substitutions for education.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and support SCADA, CCTV, PA, and fare systems.
• Maintain communication and fare collection equipment, including fiber optics.
• Respond to emergencies and keep detailed inspection records.
• Assist with system upgrades and project implementations.

Job description

Purpose of Role

Supporting safe and effective transit operations by performing preventative and corrective maintenance on communication and fare systems.

Summary

The full pay range for the position is $29.96 to $44.94 per hour with an anticipated starting rate between entry ($29.96) and midpoint ($37.45) of the range. It’s essential to note that the actual hourly rate offered will be determined based on several factors, including skills, qualifications, experience, education, certifications, training and internal equity considerations.

This position is designated as safety-sensitive and is subject to the Valley Metro RPTA's Drug and Alcohol Program.

Minimum Qualifications & Requirements

Education and/or Experience

• High School Diploma or GED and one (1) year of experience in:
• Communications systems maintenance
• Network hardware diagnostics
• SCADA operations and troubleshooting highly desired
• Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
• Additional education cannot be substituted for experience.

Medical Examination

Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a DOT physical examination.

Drug Testing

Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a pre-employment drug test. This safety-sensitive position is subject to the Valley Metro RPTA's Drug and Alcohol Program, including drug and alcohol testing as required by program policy.

Background Investigation

Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a background investigation.

Licenses and Certifications

Valid Arizona Driver's License and the ability to maintain insurability under Valley Metro's Vehicle Insurance Policy.

Position requires the incumbent to successfully qualify to operate light rail vehicles.

Incumbent is required to obtain a Class B CDL permit within 90 days of attending New Employee Orientation and obtain a full Class B CDL with air brake endorsement within 6 months of hire.

Examples of Essential Duties/Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and support network, communication, and fare collection systems, including Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV), Public Address (PA) systems, fiber optics, and network nodes.
• Maintain communication infrastructure and fare collection equipment, including variable message boards.
• Identify, gather, and test necessary parts; safely work with electricity; and operate and maintain specialized tools and equipment.
• Perform general cleaning, maintenance, and inventory management of tools, parts, and equipment.
• Respond to emergencies and maintain detailed inspection, repair, and inventory records.
• Support cross-functional projects, system upgrades, and technology implementations to improve operations.
• Perform other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

Work Environment

Work is performed in a combination of office/vehicle/outdoor setting with routine use of standard office and specialty equipment. This role requires heavy physical exertion; exerting 50-100 lbs. occasionally, 10-25 lbs. frequently, or up to 10-20 lbs. constantly.
