Job summary

STRS Ohio, the State Teachers Retirement System of Ohio, is seeking a Communications Strategist or Senior Communications Strategist to join the Executive/ Communications and Public Affairs team. You will write, edit, and coordinate materials for members, employers, and media, ensuring clear, accurate messaging across channels.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing or a related field.
  • Three or more years of related experience in communications, public relations, writing, editing or content development.
  • Seven or more years of professional experience in communications, public relations, content development or a related field.
  • Accreditation in Public Relations (APR) certification preferred.
  • Ability to translate technical or complex subject matter into clear, concise, audience-appropriate content.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with creating presentations, talking points, video scripts, news releases, social media content and other materials for internal and external audiences. (Grade 9N)
  • Collaborate with the executive director, senior leadership team and organizational leaders to create presentations, talking points, video scripts, news releases, social media content and other materials for internal and external audiences. (Grade 10)
  • Develop, edit and proofread clear, accurate and audience-focused content for print, digital, presentation and internal communication channels.
  • Develop key messages and create, edit and proofread clear, accurate, and audience-centered content for print, digital, presentation and executive communication channels.
  • Manage communication projects from intake through completion, coordinating scope, assignments, approvals, production, mailing logistics and follow-up to ensure timely delivery.
  • Assist with developing communication materials and project plans for programs, services and organizational initiatives.
  • Collect audience feedback and communication metrics and prepare routine summaries.

Compensation

Grade 9N: $32.67 - $39.21/ hr. Grade 10: $76,458 - $91,749

8:00am-5:00pm Monday through Friday (Onsite)

General Summary

Under the direction of the director, Strategic Communications and the chief communication officer, assists with developing and coordinating communication materials for internal and external audiences, including members, employers, retirement board members, media, associates and other key stakeholders. Writes, edits and proofreads content; coordinates routine project activities; and works with Communication Services associates and organizational business areas to support clear, accurate, accessible and consistent communications.
