As our Communications Specialist, you'll serve as the promotions designer and voice of Job Service North Dakota. From crafting powerful narratives to designing eye-catching visuals, you'll manage our communications strategy from concept to execution. You'll oversee website content and functionality, social media presence, brand consistency, and internal and external communications-all while ensuring proper accessibility.
What You'll Do
- Develop and deliver professional, engaging messaging that highlights the value of our programs, services, and team efforts.
- Design compelling visual content for web, social media, and print using Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and other tools.
- Manage our website and intranet, ensuring up-to-date content, optimized user experience, and compliance with accessibility standards.
- Plan and schedule content across Job Service North Dakota's social media platforms, aligning with strategic goals.
- Create and design marketing collateral-flyers, forms, graphics, short-form videos and more-to support outreach campaigns and events.
- Jump in to support our digital creators with general tasks like content uploads, draft edits, and ensuring the right communication goes live at the right time.
- Monitor web and social media analytics to evaluate performance and optimize communications strategy.
- Ensure all content meets records retention policies and complies with state and federal accessibility regulations.
- Provide training and guidance to internal teams on content best practices, branding, and accessibility standards
- Represent Job Service at State Cabinet Public Information Officer meetings and participate in Joint Information Center activities as needed to assist in emergency response plans

Minimum Qualifications
To be considered for this position, you must have the following experience/education combination:
- A bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, digital media, business administration, or related field, plus one (1) year of related work experience
- OR-
- At least five (5) years of relevant work experience and a high school diploma or equivalent
In Addition, Candidates Must Demonstrate
- Excellent written, visual, and interpersonal communication skills
- Experience managing institutional or organizational social media platforms
- Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop)
- Experience with web content management systems (Drupal, WordPress, or similar)
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic understanding of HTML/CSS
- Familiarity with Google Analytics and social media insights tools
- Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1), ADA, and Section 508 compliance
- Background in government, education, or public-sector communications
- Commitment to digital accessibility
