Position Summary

The Business Systems Communications Lead will develop, manage, and execute strategic communications supporting a major, multiyear business transformation at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL). This role supports the transition from legacy enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems to SAP S/4HANA, helping employees and stakeholders understand upcoming changes, impacts, timelines, and available support. Working closely with the Program Change Manager, project leadership, workstream leads, system integrator partners, and engagement teams, the Communications Lead will serve as a trusted communications advisor and coordinate messaging across multiple workstreams and audiences.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Develop and execute strategic and tactical communication plans for a large-scale, enterprise-wide business systems transformation.
• Partner with the Program Change Manager, project leadership, workstream leads, system integrators, and engagement teams to identify and address communication needs.
• Create clear, timely, and consistent messaging that prepares employees and stakeholders for changes associated with the SAP S/4HANA implementation.
• Plan and deliver multi-channel communication campaigns designed to support employee awareness, engagement, adoption, and readiness.
• Write, edit, and develop communications for employees, managers, executives, and other internal and external stakeholders.
• Develop content for newsletters, executive communications, correspondence, web content, presentations, announcements, and other communication vehicles.
• Capture executive voice and prepare high-quality communications with limited oversight.
• Coordinate with multimedia professionals to incorporate graphics, photography, video, and other visual content into communication campaigns.
• Maintain program communication protocols, editorial standards, messaging consistency, and communication schedules across workstreams.
• Collaborate with functional teams and organizational communications partners to coordinate outreach and ensure alignment.
• Anticipate communication risks, stakeholder concerns, and potential impacts to third-party relationships and help coordinate appropriate responses.
• Measure communication effectiveness and adjust strategies and tactics to achieve defined communication goals.
• Maintain accurate documentation and records related to job functions.
• Collaborate with internal departments and external partners, as necessary.
• Ensure compliance with all applicable safety standards, company policies, and regulatory requirements.
• Promptly report unsafe conditions, equipment issues, or incidents to management.
• Participate in required training sessions and safety briefings.
• Perform other duties as assigned to meet operational needs.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in English, journalism, communications, or a physical, life, or social science and a minimum of 12 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and directly related experience.
• Extensive professional writing and editing experience with strong command of English grammar, punctuation, tone, and style.
• Demonstrated experience planning and executing communications for large, complex, enterprise-wide initiatives.
• Strong project management skills and the ability to coordinate communication activities across multiple workstreams, deadlines, and stakeholder groups.
• Experience developing multi-channel communication campaigns with specific, measurable objectives.
• Experience advising and supporting executive-level leaders and developing executive communications with limited oversight.
• Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word.
• Working knowledge of generative AI tools, including prompt engineering, evaluation of AI-generated content for quality and accuracy, and responsible use within organizational policies.
• Demonstrated judgment, collaboration, organization, and ability to operate effectively with senior leaders and cross-functional teams.
• Experience strategically incorporating multimedia content, including graphics, photography, and video, into communications.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to handle confidential information with discretion
