Communications & Public Engagement Manager

Full Time Keller, TX, US

Salary: $76,550.00 Annually

Work Schedule - Monday - Thursday, 7:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.

Position Function- Under the direction of the Director of the City Manager or designee, performs assigned duties necessary to develop, coordinate, and evaluate content for dissemination to a broad range of audiences through various communication tools, including public relations, branding, media relations, digital media, social media and other engagement activities. Responsible to create, evaluate and coordinate assigned communication content; liaise with elected officials, City staff, and customers to maintain continuity, transparency, and engagement; and facilitate timely and accurate information to internal and external audiences.

Essential Duties % of Performance

Performs assigned duties necessary to develop, coordinate, and evaluate content for dissemination to a broad range of audiences through various communication tools, including public relations, branding, media relations, digital media, social media and other engagement activities. Responsible to create, evaluate and coordinate assigned communication content; liaise with elected officials, City staff, and customers to maintain continuity, transparency, and engagement; and facilitate timely and accurate information to internal and external audiences.

Performs assigned duties necessary to develop, coordinate, and evaluate content for dissemination to a broad range of audiences through various communication tools, including public relations, branding, media relations, digital media, social media and other engagement activities. Responsible to create, evaluate and coordinate assigned communication content; liaise with elected officials, City staff, and customers to maintain continuity, transparency, and engagement; and facilitate timely and accurate information to internal and external audiences. 60%

Performs assigned duties necessary to initiate communication and strategies to promote community initiatives, events, and special projects, which include but are not limited to: create, design and distribute marketing materials; maintain and serve as administrator and content editor for City website and City social media; develop presentations, speeches, and/or press releases, as directed. 20%

Provides technical staff assistance to City staff through the provision of training on the Content Management System for City website and developing "content". Responsible for the development, implementation, and training in the use of public communications and/or public relations policies and procedures. 10%

Responsible to research, identify, analyze and recommend communication trends, strategies and methods; track, evaluate and report on statistics; and coordinate and assist with various City projects, such as award applications, citizen committees and academies, community outreach initiatives, etc. 5%

Requirements/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Required knowledge and experience normally obtained through the completion of an advanced education from an accredited educational institution of higher learning resulting in a Bachelor's Degree in Communication, Public Administration, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations or related field, and five (5) to seven (7) years of work related experience in Public Relations, Corporate Communications or related field is required.

Local government and/or Public Relations experience is preferred.

Must possess excellent oral, Public Relations and written communication skills, including mastery of English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.

Work requires the ability to read letters, memos, contracts, professional and industry literature, spreadsheets and other job related analysis.

Work requires the ability to understand and develop computer models for cost analysis and compose financial and budgetary reports.

Work requires substantial independent judgment and decision-making.

Work is widely varied, involving analyzing and evaluating many complex and significant variables.

Competent in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Publisher software, Adobe Acrobat and Adobe Creative Suite, as well as software for graphic design, brochure development and other marketing materials (e.g. InDesign, Photoshop, Canva, etc.)

Competent in website development, including the use of Content Management System software.

Ability to research, compile and analyze data, and present findings to management in an acceptable format.

Ability to monitor and assess operations, workload, projects, and team performance.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working and professional relationships with City and other public employees, public officials, contractors, consultants, vendors, media, and the general public.

Ability to work after hours, meet deadlines, work under high demands, short time constraints, and the pressure of a fast paced work environment, meeting established timelines/deadlines and multi-task effectively.

Ability to remain up-to-date on Federal, State, and City regulations, best practices and policies affecting division and job related activities.

Must exhibit attention to detail, accuracy, and safety.

Must possess a valid Texas Class C driver license.

Must pass all post offer pre-employment processes and/or procedures, to include but not limited to Drug Screen, Physical Examination, and applicable Background Checks.
