Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in communications and marketing or related field.
  • Two+ years of experience in communications, marketing or PR.
  • Experience writing for multiple platforms (print, digital, social).
  • Proficiency with Adobe InDesign and Photoshop required.
  • Experience with photography/videography and websites or social media preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Drive execution of marketing strategies and engagement goals.
  • Grow organic engagement on social media and increase views.
  • Strengthen website content and brand consistency across materials.
  • Write, edit, and coordinate articles, press releases and blogs.
  • Coordinate photography, multimedia for events and campaigns.

Job description

Purpose of the Role:

The Communications & Marketing Specialist advances North Dakota Farmers Union's mission by turning strategic communication goals into compelling content and campaigns. Reporting to the Communications Director, this position creates engaging content, produces high-quality materials and executes marketing initiatives across digital, print, and media platforms that result in a stronger NDFU brand, greater public awareness of the organization's programs and priorities, and deeper engagement with members, stakeholders, and the public.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Drive execution of communication and marketing strategies set by the Communications Director, aligned with department engagement and audience growth goals.
  • Grow organic engagement on NDFU social media channels by creating content that sparks interaction and meets annual engagement rate targets.
  • Increase social media reach by producing content that results in steady growth in views across NDFU's differing platforms and accounts.
  • Strengthen the NDFU website by publishing and refreshing content that is accurate, current, and aligned with organizational messaging.
  • Analyze communication performance metrics, report on progress toward engagement and view targets, and recommend adjustments that improve outreach.
  • Produce and distribute content across digital and print platforms, including the website, social media, mobile app, newsletters, advertising, and promotional materials.
  • Safeguard brand consistency by ensuring all materials are accurate, visually compelling, and aligned with established brand standards.
  • Coordinate photography and multimedia for events, programs, and promotional campaigns to fuel high-performing social content.
  • Write and edit articles, press releases, blog posts, and other materials that advance NDFU programs, services, events, and legislative priorities.
  • Contribute to the Union Farmer magazine from concept to publication by researching stories, writing content, coordinating photography, and meeting production deadlines.
  • Advance media outreach by preparing materials, arranging interviews, and responding to routine media requests.
  • Partner with departments across the organization to identify communication needs and amplify programs, events, and initiatives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Creative thinker with the ability to develop engaging content for a variety of audiences and communication platforms.
  • Knowledge of social media management, website content management systems and digital marketing best practices.
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong writing, editing and proofreading abilities with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Working knowledge of marketing, communications and public relations principles.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as a collaborative team member.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and common digital communication platforms.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, including InDesign and Photoshop.
  • Photography, videography and basic video editing skills are preferred.
Required Experience and Education:

Bachelor's degree in communications and marketing or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. Two or more years of experience in communications, marketing, public relations or a related field preferred. Experience writing for multiple communication platforms, including print, digital and social media. Proficiency with Adobe InDesign and Adobe Photoshop required. Experience with photography, videography, website content management systems or social media management is preferred.

Working Conditions:

This position is an office-based position with some remote work options available; flexible schedule; day, evening and weekend work with occasional in-state and out-of-state travel required.
