SLDC seeks a dynamic Communications & Marketing Coordinator to plan events, produce visual assets, maintain our web content, and elevate our brand across platforms. The role blends public relations, journalism, design, and content management in a fast-paced environment.

You will manage media relations, draft materials, oversee CMS updates (Squarespace/WordPress), and coordinate multi-stakeholder programs with on-site support.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2–4 years of demonstrated experience in event coordination, public relations, marketing, journalism, or strategic communications.
  • Proficiency in Canva and Adobe Photoshop.
  • Hands-on website maintenance with CMS (Squarespace or WordPress).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication with strong editing and proofreading abilities.

Responsibilities

Position OverviewWe are seeking a dynamic, multi-talented Communications & Marketing Coordinator to join our team. This role is ideal for a creative and detail-oriented professional with a versatile background spanning event management, public relations, journalism, marketing, graphic design, and website maintenance. The ideal candidate will take ownership of planning and executing impactful events, producing visual marketing collateral, maintaining website content, and elevating our brand's message across all platforms.Key Responsibilities1. Public Relations & Media CommunicationsDraft press releases, media advisories, newsletters, email announcements (e.g., via Constant Contact), and public notices.Apply journalism and public relations principles to craft clear, concise, and compelling narratives that answer public inquiries effectively.Manage and schedule social media content across platforms using management tools like Hootsuite.Assist with recording, archiving, and uploading public meeting videos and board decks to online platforms (e.g., YouTube).Craft internal communications and board decks for executive leadership and relevant stakeholders.Identify opportunities to strengthen organizational visibility and community awareness.2. Graphic Design & Marketing CollateralDesign visually engaging graphics for print and digital channels, including flyers, pamphlets, social media graphics, ad banners, and slide decks.Utilize design tools such as Canva, Adobe Photoshop, and other Creative Cloud applications to produce brand-compliant assets.Create marketing materials to promote organizational initiatives, programs, and upcoming events to stakeholders and the general public.Maintain organized files of logos, photographs, templates, graphics, and other brand assets.3. Website Maintenance & Content ManagementMaintain and routinely update content, imagery, and messaging across organizational websites using Content Management Systems (CMS) such as Squarespace.Ensure website landing pages, event links, and downloadable resources remain accurate, functioning, and up-to-date.Collaborate with technical support partners to oversee plugins, multilingual functionality, and ADA/WCAG accessibility compliance.4. Strategic Program & Initiative CoordinationPlan, organize, and facilitate multi-stakeholder initiatives, workshops, internal alignment sessions, and special organizational programs.Oversee scheduling platforms, manage participant tracking, handle ongoing stakeholder communications, and streamline operational workflows.Provide comprehensive real-time coordination, vendor or partner oversight, registration management, and on-site operational support.Conduct post-program evaluations, track participation data, synthesize feedback, and prepare reconciliation reports.Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned.Qualifications & SkillsRequired QualificationsExperience: Minimum 2–4 years of demonstrated experience in event coordination, public relations, marketing, journalism, or strategic communications.Design Capabilities: Proficiency in graphic design software and tools, specifically Canva and Adobe Photoshop.Web Management: Hands-on experience with website maintenance, content updates, and CMS management (e.g., Squarespace or WordPress).Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with strong editing, storytelling, and proofreading abilities.Organization: Proven ability to multitask, prioritize deadline-driven projects, and manage event logistics seamlessly.Preferred QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Journalism, Public Relations, Marketing, Communications, or a related field.Experience managing email marketing tools (e.g., Constant Contact) and social media platforms (e.g., Hootsuite).Familiarity with event registration tools (e.g., Eventbrite) and basic video/photo editing.Understanding of accessibility standards (ADA/WCAG) and digital inclusion best practices.Key CompetenciesAdaptability & Responsiveness: Thrives in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities and work independently without much oversight.Creative Problem Solving: Translates ideas into compelling visuals and seamless events.Collaborative Mindset: Works effectively with internal leadership, external contractors, and community stakeholders.Application ProcessTo apply, please submit your resume, a cover letter outlining your relevant experience, and a portfolio or work samples (design samples, written content, or links to managed websites/events) to Person.POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORKThis is a full-time, exempt position with health benefits and paid time off.
