Job summary

The University of New Mexico is seeking a part-time Communications Assistant to support the university's news and media outreach. You will write press releases and feature stories, conduct interviews, and assist with photography and video projects for UNM’s print and online channels.

You will work closely with the communications team, gaining exposure to media relations and event coverage while performing administrative duties such as phones, calendar updates, and media monitoring.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of AP style and ability to edit for style/clarity in print and electronic formats.
• Good verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong computer skills with Microsoft Office and Adobe Creative Cloud; comfortable working online.

Responsibilities

• Write press releases and feature stories for print and electronic media.
• Conduct interviews with faculty, staff and students.
• Take photographs and possibly shoot video for news stories.
• Coordinate with communications to produce UNM news content; network with local media.
• Handle administrative tasks: phones, logging stories, updating UNM calendar, media monitoring.
