Job summary

The ASM Materials Education Foundation seeks a Communications Coordinator reporting to the Executive Director. The role focuses on digital and social media communications, donor communications, newsletters, and marketing materials to increase awareness of the Foundation and its programs.

Responsibilities include content creation for newsletters, social channels, and donor communications, plus supporting events and branding efforts across audiences including educators and students.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • 3–4 years of relevant professional experience in communications or nonprofit fields.
  • Strong writing and editing with attention to detail.

  • Gather stories, updates, photos, and content to support communications across platforms.
  • Maintain consistent messaging and branding across all Foundation communications.
  • Support communications for Foundation events and initiatives.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English/Writing, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field

Job description

The Communications Coordinator will report directly to the Executive Director of ASM Foundation develops and manages communications that increase awareness of the ASM Foundation, its programs, and its impact. This role has a strong focus on digital and social media communications, along with donor communications, newsletters, and marketing materials.

The ASM Materials Education Foundation (ASM Foundation) is the supporting organization of ASM International, advancing educational and charitable initiatives that support the materials science and engineering community.

  • Write and produce newsletters, announcements, publications, and other digital and print communications.
  • Develop and manage day-to-day content for the ASM Foundation’s social media channels, including writing, creating, scheduling, and publishing posts.
  • Develop donor communications, including annual fund appeal letters, campaign materials, donation acknowledgments, and stewardship communications.
  • Work with Foundation staff to promote Foundation programs and initiatives and increase awareness and participation among educators, students, members, and other audiences.
  • Gather and develop stories, updates, photos, and other content to support communications and marketing efforts on various platforms.
  • Maintain consistent messaging and branding across Foundation communications.
  • Support communications for Foundation events, activities, and initiatives.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism, English/Writing, Marketing, Public Relations, or a related field required.
  • 3–4 years of relevant professional experience in communications, marketing, public relations, nonprofit communications, or a related field.
  • Strong writing, editing, and verbal communication skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Experience creating content for social media and digital communications.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or similar design tools preferred.
  • Nonprofit, fundraising, or education-related communications experience is a plus.
