Job description

Ministry to State (MTS) is a ministry of Mission to North America and part of the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). MTS seeks to serve those in government through spiritual direction, Bible studies, counseling, prayer, and evangelism. With a presence in Washington, D.C., and state capitals nationwide, MTS works to share the love and truth of Christ with those serving in the public sphere.

The Commons Ministry is specifically designed to serve Capitol Hill interns, offering them a welcoming environment for spiritual growth, Biblical teaching, and meaningful community during their time in D.C.

Position Summary

The Commons Intern will gain hands‑on ministry experience by supporting the MTS team in Washington, D.C., and focusing on outreach to interns on Capitol Hill. This role is ideal for individuals exploring a call to ministry, offering a unique opportunity to minister in a diverse and non‑partisan environment.

Interns will assist in hosting weekly Commons Bible studies, planning events, and developing meaningful connections with Capitol Hill interns. Additional responsibilities include administrative support, professional development meetings, and participation in broader MTS ministry activities.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Commons Ministry Development
  • Meet regularly with Capitol Hill interns to cultivate relationships and encourage spiritual growth (e.g., coffee meetings, lunches).
  • Assist in planning and executing weekly Commons Bible studies and discussion groups.
  • Help organize dinner forums, special events, and outreach initiatives for interns.
  • Identify and engage potential volunteers to support Commons activities.
• Administrative and Logistical Support
  • Provide operational assistance for events and programs, including communications, scheduling, and logistics.
  • Support database management and follow‑up efforts for Commons participants.
• Professional Development and Mentorship
  • Meet weekly with an assigned MTS staff member for guidance, spiritual growth, and leadership development.
  • Participate in team meetings and provide input on program strategy and effectiveness.
• Other Duties
  • Attend and assist with other MTS Bible studies, events, and outreach efforts as assigned.
  • Complete additional tasks to support the broader mission of MTS as needed.

Qualifications

• Vibrant and growing Christian faith with a clear understanding of the Gospel.
• A sense of calling to ministry and a heart for serving those in government.
• Entrepreneurial spirit and a willingness to take initiative in a diverse work environment.
• Ability to minister in a non‑partisan manner, building relationships with people across political and cultural lines.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• College or seminary student (or recent graduate) preferred, but others exploring ministry are welcome to apply.

Additional Information

Compensation

• A stipend of $1,500 will be provided for the summer.
• Assistance with securing housing is available if needed.
• Interns may raise additional funds to cover expenses (if necessary) and are encouraged to seek financial and prayer support from their home church and personal network.
