Summary

Our award-winning client is seeking a Commodity Manager to join their team. The ideal candidate is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing grain procurement, executing commodity and risk management strategies, and driving profitability across the organization. This position plays a critical role in aligning commodity operations with market dynamics, regulatory requirements, and company objectives.

The Commodity Manager partners closely with leadership, brokers, and market participants to optimize purchasing strategies, manage exposure, and support sustainable growth.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and execute grain origination programs that minimize basis exposure and strengthen relationships with growers through innovative marketing strategies.
  • Manage long and short commodity positions, including corn basis adjustments and deferred cash bids.
  • Identify and secure new grain procurement opportunities to support operational needs.
  • Develop and expand ethanol market opportunities, including oversight of wetcake marketing strategies.
  • Oversee carbon reduction initiatives and ensure compliance with applicable regulatory and industry standards.
  • Adhere to the company’s Risk Management Policy, utilizing approved tools and strategies to protect margins and mitigate market volatility.
  • Prepare and present comprehensive monthly reports on commodity positions, risk exposure, and market trends to senior leadership and the board.
  • Optimize inventories across all commodities, including railcar management, to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Manage and oversee the sales of ethanol, wetcake, and DDGS to maximize returns.
  • Stay current on market conditions by attending relevant industry conferences, workshops, and events.
  • Partner with brokers to analyze commodity trends and inform procurement and risk strategies.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Agribusiness, Marketing, or a related field preferred; equivalent industry experience will be considered.
  • Minimum of seven years of experience in grain merchandising, commodity trading, or agricultural marketing.
  • Strong analytical capabilities with advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Detail-oriented problem solver with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong interpersonal effectiveness.
  • Innovative, forward-thinking mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement.
Work Environment
  • Office-based role with extensive computer use.
  • Largely self-directed position requiring a strong understanding of company policies, procedures, and values.
  • Periodic travel within the trading and market territory to visit customers and industry partners.
