Job summary

Spectrum Control seeks a Commodity Manager to develop strategic sourcing and lead a team of three professionals across multiple locations. You will oversee supplier negotiations, contracting, cost-reduction initiatives, and risk management to support aerospace and other high‑reliability markets.

Collaborating with Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Program Management, you will build a competitive supplier base, monitor KPIs, and drive continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, Operations, or a related field; advanced degree or professional certification is preferred.
• 7+ years of progressive experience in strategic sourcing, commodity management or supply-chain management, including 2+ years of direct people management experience.
• Experience sourcing technical components, materials, or manufacturing services within aerospace, defense, electronics, or another highly regulated manufacturing environment.
• Strong background in supplier negotiations, contract development, cost analysis, commodity strategy, and supplier performance management.
• Ability to understand technical requirements, drawings, specifications, bills of material, cost drivers, and manufacturing processes.
• Proven ability to lead cross‑functional initiatives and influence stakeholders.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Commodity Manager is responsible for developing and executing commodity strategies that support Spectrum Control’s operational, financial, and customer objectives across multiple manufacturing locations. This hands‑on, people manager will lead and develop a team of three commodity professionals while remaining actively involved in major supplier negotiations, contracting, cost reduction, risk mitigation, and supplier performance management.

Working closely with Supply Chain, Engineering, Operations, Quality, and Program Management, the Commodity Manager will build a reliable and competitive supply base for highly engineered products serving the aerospace, defense, and other high‑reliability markets. The role requires strong commercial judgment, technical sourcing experience, and the ability to balance strategic initiatives with immediate business and production needs.

Compensation Range:

The expected compensation range for this position is $130,000 - 160,000.00 annually.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Commodity Strategy:

• Spend Analytics
• Develop commodity strategy framework, supplier strategies.
• Implement major commodity strategies aligned with business objectives, customer requirements, and manufacturing needs.
• Manage supplier relationships and performance, improve lead time, mitigate supplier/supply risk.
• Identify and execute cost-reduction, productivity, value-engineering, and working-capital improvement opportunities.
• Identify opportunities for supplier base optimization.

People Management and Development:

• Lead, coach, and develop a team of commodity professionals, establishing clear priorities, performance expectations, and development plans.
• Establish and monitor key performance indicators for cost savings, lead time reduction, risk mitigation.
• Jointed ownership with Material Management team for purchase-price variance, delivery, lead time, and risk reduction.

Maintain hands-on involvements:

• SRM.
• Critical supplier selection, negotiations, contracting, cost analysis, and resolution of critical supply issues.
• Partner with Engineering and Operations to support supplier transitions and make-versus-buy decisions.

Continuous Improvement:

• Collaborate across Spectrum Control locations to standardize commodity practices, leverage enterprise-wide spend, and improve supply-chain performance.
• Automation and AI- actively seek opportunities to introduce new tools and automation.
• Establish and implement KPIs, best practice commodity framework and processes.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, Engineering, Operations, or a related field; advanced degree or professional certification is preferred.
• 7+ years of progressive experience in strategic sourcing, commodity management or supply-chain management, including 2+ years of direct people management experience.
• Demonstrated experience leading and developing sourcing, procurement, or commodity-management professionals.
• Experience sourcing technical components, materials, or manufacturing services within aerospace, defense, electronics, or another highly regulated manufacturing environment.
• Strong background in supplier negotiations, contract development, cost analysis, commodity strategy, and supplier performance management.
• Ability to understand technical requirements, drawings, specifications, bills of material, cost drivers, and manufacturing processes.
• Proven ability to lead cross‑functional initiatives and influence stakeholders across Engineering, Operations, Quality, Finance, and Program Management.
• Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
• Ability to manage strategic priorities while responding effectively to urgent production and supplier‑related challenges.
• Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems, Microsoft Office applications, and data‑analysis or business‑intelligence tools.
• Ability and willingness to travel approximately 30%.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• This position may be based at Spectrum Control’s facility in Marlborough, MA, or Philadelphia, PA.
• The role operates in a professional office environment with regular interaction on the manufacturing floor and at supplier facilities.
• Approximately 30% travel is required to Spectrum Control locations, supplier sites, and other business‑related destinations.
• The role requires frequent collaboration across multiple locations and functions.
