Job summary

Allison Transmission in Indianapolis seeks a procurement leader to guide commodity strategies and supplier relations, driving make/buy decisions, negotiating contracts, and aligning sourcing with quality, cost, and delivery goals.

You will analyze spend data, manage supplier performance, and develop transition plans, requiring strong cross-functional communication, manufacturing process understanding, and effective problem solving. This is a hands-on, travel-enabled role.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills in cross-functional environments, including management level.
  • Understanding of supply chain principles.
  • Exposure to manufacturing and assembly processes.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings or specifications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to collaborate in a group setting.
  • Ability to assess and identify appropriate alternative actions for problems or opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Leads a commodity team in development and implementation of strategies and goals for assigned commodities.
  • Conducts supplier analysis and selection processes, make/buy, outsourcing, and transitions.
  • Establishes sourcing strategies by reviewing supplier performance and segmentation initiatives.
  • Develops relationships with internal functions and suppliers to resolve issues.
  • Leads supplier negotiations and ensures conformance to terms and conditions.
  • Develops implementation and transition plans to realize sourcing benefits.
  • Analyzes spend data and market trends to identify sourcing initiatives.
  • Manages supply chain by monitoring quality, delivery, or pricing.
  • Presents procurement opportunities to management aligned with cost reduction.
  • Adheres to corporate and procurement policies.
  • Makes a physical presence in the workplace.

Acts as project manager in various types of continuation/product support projects.Establishes sourcing strategies by proactively reviewing supplier performance and conducting supplier and part number rationalization and segmentation initiatives.Develops and manages working relationships with both internal functions and suppliers to manage resolution of supplier issues.Leads supplier negotiations in support of executing supply agreements and ensuring supplier’s conformance to company’s terms and conditions. Continuously monitors agreements and expectations. Partners closely with legal department in working contract language.Develops implementation and transition plans to ensure sourcing benefits for the assigned commodities are fully realized.Analyzes commodity spend data, market trends, and dynamics to evaluate or identify sourcing initiatives within designated spend categories.Manages the supply chain by monitoring, reporting, and providing recommendations on issues which could affect quality, delivery, or pricing.Presents to management procurement opportunities and associated analysis that are aligned with corporate strategic plans and cost reduction initiatives.Adheres to corporate and procurement policies and procedures.Maintains a physical presence in the workplace.Key Performance MeasuresProductivityQualityResponsivenessCostQualificationsBachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.Strong oral and written communication skills.
