Redegate USA seeks an experienced Commodity Buyer for metals and direct materials in a heavy manufacturing environment. This onsite role can be based in Wisconsin or Indiana with an ASAP start and requires 5+ years in procurement to drive sourcing strategies and supplier performance.

The role focuses on cost, quality, delivery, supplier relationships, and market analysis, with strong Excel use and cross-functional teamwork across engineering, operations, and finance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five+ years of procurement or sourcing experience, including direct commodity or category management.
  • Experience sourcing metals, alloys, castings, steel, or related direct materials in heavy manufacturing.
  • Strong supplier negotiation, contract-management, and relationship-management skills.
  • Experience analyzing commodity-price trends, market indices, and total cost of ownership.
  • Experience with index-based or hedged commodity-pricing structures.
  • Strong analytical, forecasting, budgeting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work onsite in Central Wisconsin or Southern Indiana.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies for metals, alloys, direct materials, supplies, and services.
  • Lead competitive bidding, supplier negotiations, and sourcing recommendations.
  • Negotiate supplier agreements and develop long-term commercial strategies.
  • Manage supplier relationships and performance across cost, quality, delivery, service, and reliability.
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities through improved terms, purchasing strategies, and process improvements.
  • Analyze commodity markets, price fluctuations, market indices, technology developments, and total cost of ownership.
  • Develop procurement forecasts and budgets that support operational objectives.
  • Partner with inventory-control teams and plant controllers to align purchasing with production needs.
  • Develop inventory min/max strategies, improve supplier lead times, and monitor overdue purchase orders.
  • Coordinate with Engineering, Quality, Operations, Finance, and Program Management to resolve material issues.
  • Develop and monitor corrective actions for underperforming suppliers.
  • Assess supply-chain risks related to market volatility and disruptions.
  • Develop contingency plans and maintain qualified alternative sources of supply.

About the Opportunity

Redegate USA is supporting an established North American heavy manufacturing organization in identifying an experienced Commodity Buyer for a full-time, onsite position in either Central Wisconsin or Southern Indiana.

The Commodity Buyer will lead the strategic sourcing and procurement of metals, alloys, direct materials, supplies, and services. This individual will develop sourcing strategies, negotiate supplier agreements, manage supplier performance, analyze commodity markets, and identify opportunities to improve cost, quality, delivery, and supply continuity.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement sourcing strategies for metals, alloys, direct materials, supplies, and services
  • Lead competitive bidding, alternative bid processes, supplier negotiations, and sourcing recommendations
  • Negotiate supplier agreements and develop long-term commercial strategies
  • Manage supplier relationships and performance across cost, quality, delivery, service, and reliability
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities through improved terms, purchasing strategies, alternative materials, and process improvements
  • Analyze commodity markets, price fluctuations, market indices, technology developments, and total cost of ownership

  • Partner with inventory-control teams and plant controllers to align purchasing with production and inventory requirements
  • Develop inventory min/max strategies, improve supplier lead times, and monitor overdue purchase orders

Candidate Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Five or more years of procurement or sourcing experience, including direct commodity or category management
  • Experience sourcing metals, alloys, castings, steel, or related direct materials within a heavy-manufacturing environment
  • Strong supplier negotiation, contract-management, and relationship-management skills
  • Experience analyzing commodity-price trends, market indices, and total cost of ownership
  • Experience with index-based or hedged commodity-pricing structures
  • Strong analytical, forecasting, budgeting, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
