The California State Assembly Committee on Transportation seeks an experienced policy leader to serve as its Committee Staff Director, directing the Committee's staff and advising Assembly members on a wide range of

issues, including: high-speed rail, highways and airports, transportation financing, driver licenses, mass transit systems, vehicle weight restrictions, mobile sources of air pollution and more.

The Committee Staff Director directs, coordinates, and supervises the Committee's daily and long-term operations. As the Committee's lead staff expert, the Committee Staff Director

prepares and oversees expert analysis of transportation legislation and advises the Chair, Assembly members, and staff; analyzes proposed legislation; reviews the quality of other consultants’ work; negotiates bill amendments; staffs bills within the Committee’s jurisdiction on behalf of the Chair; plans informational and oversight hearings; and supervises the committee staff.

Strong management, communication, research, and writing skills are

required. The ideal candidate also has meaningful legislative experience, is adept at critical thinking and independent research, and has the ability to succeed in a fast-paced and high-pressure work environment.

The salary range for this position is $12,500 - $22,609 per month. It is

anticipated that the position will be filled in the range of $12,500 - $15,500 per month unless the candidate has significant legislative experience.
