The Commissioning Technician II will support the Commissioning Superintendent in project commissioning activities. This position plays a supporting role in our commissioning projects for the respective disciplines. Under direct supervision, this position reports functionally to the Director of Commissioning and administratively to the assigned Commissioning Superintendent on site. This position is designated as a safety-sensitive position.

This position involves 70-80% travel, with per diem provided while traveling and working on project sites. Site locations include, but are not limited to, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Texas, Mississippi, Louisiana, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, etc.

What You'll Do:

  1. Identify and communicate problematic issues affecting project milestones by understanding all project plans, specifications, and drawings.
  2. Perform inspections during the final phases of construction and before energization to maintain quality standards.
  3. Participate in field walk-throughs with commissioning team members to ensure equipment is LOTO'd before energization.
  4. Review site-specific commissioning trackers before activities to ensure all pre-energization tasks are completed.
  5. Support the commissioning team as a safety watch during commissioning, troubleshooting system issues, damages, and safety risks.
  6. Review submittal/RFI logs to ensure all required submittals are closed out.
  7. Participate in project-specific drawing reviews and engineering discussions as needed.
  8. Complete daily inspections, uploading reports and photos using construction management software.
  9. Assist in preparing reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing data such as quality reports.
  10. Travel to project sites to oversee construction, advise clients, and assist with product service and commissioning activities.
  11. Assist in training entry-level team members and support all commissioning tasks.
  12. Engage in continuous learning through on-the-job and classroom training.
  13. Work with the commissioning lead or manager to develop lessons learned at project completion.
  14. Maintain current technical knowledge of relevant processes and best practices.
  15. Perform other duties as required.

Must Haves:

  • 1-3+ years of commissioning experience in utility-scale solar industry.
  • Proven safety record and understanding of OSHA safe workplace practices.
  • Problem-solving skills, strong work ethic, and team-oriented attitude.
  • Experience with cloud-based construction management systems (e.g., Procore, Office 365).
  • Knowledge of project plans, specifications, drawings, and construction principles/practices.
  • Intermediate knowledge of medium voltage fundamentals, utility, overhead, and pole equipment.
  • Basic understanding of construction and electrical single-line and three-line diagrams, with the ability to interpret manufacturing standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Nice to Haves:

  • Experience in renewable energy (solar) industry.
  • Construction experience with transmission-scale projects.
  • Subcontractor and vendor management skills.
  • NABCEP PV Associate Certification.
  • Electrical license or equivalent education.
  • NFPA 70e certification.

Education and Certifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Associate degree in a related field required.
  • OSHA 30 Certified required.

Working Environment and Physical Demands:

  • 70-80% travel to project sites; field and office work.
  • Ability to travel and be flexible across multiple states.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation required.
  • Compliance with safety standards, including OSHA requirements.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various climates.
  • Physical ability to sit, stoop, kneel, stand, walk, and lift up to 50 pounds.
